An investigation will prove nothing. The NFL can't compel testimony, force the release of medical records or compel Ashley Manning to do or say anything. The harm is to Peyton Manning's reputation and legacy, and that damage has already been done. Look at this board. Some posters believe he's guilty, and his integrity is being questioned-- with NO evidence that he did anything even remotely wrong. Doubt will remain, because all parties will retain counsel and the investigation will go nowhere.
