Is Barnes too tough on his players?

The key word is "his" players. If he is going to coach hard, he needs players that respond to that type of coaching. He brings the prospects to practice so they see what goes on.

Part of the evaluation process in recruiting includes looking at a kid's temperament as well as talent. My guess is the more talented a player is the more willing the coach is to take him and hope for the best. Watching body language Reese wouldn't be a fan of Barnes. I am guessing Big Ray is not sold yet. Mostella seems to have come around.

I had heard That Barnes had thought perhaps he had gotten too focused on recruiting ratings at some point in his tenure at Texas. I believe there are plenty of kids out there that respond to coaches that demand a lot . There are plenty that don't also. Hey we only have thirteen scholarships. You only need to find eight or nine that buy in to be good. I believe he can get that many here .

The loss to LSU was due to a 1st half of getting hammered 47-20 which made Donnie livid at halftime. When the team returned to the floor, they outscored them 35-26.

As far as South Carolina, they had just come off a 67-50 win at Georgia in their second win over the Dawgs for the year. If they could play us every game for the rest of this season, they would end the 2015-16 campaign undefeated.

How do you know that CDT was livid? Maybe he started crying and politely asked the team to play better.

Then why do you think Martin left for Cal?

Because his value was never going to be higher than it was after the Sweet Sixteen and he made a business decision to cash in. His 2014-15 team was going to struggle and he knew it. His Sweet Sixteen team was very talented and under achieved most of the year backing into the tourney. A lucky draw and Mercer upsetting Duke made him look better than what he really was. He cashed in.

SD doesn't have a damn clue what happened at halftime.

Dear gracious it was 47-20 at half. It doesn't take a very intelligent basketball to know what kind of mood the head coach was in a halftime

I mean where do people stop and think about common sense before trying to discredit a poster that doesn't need much help with that?

I signed it and thought it was a joke.... I honestly have a hard time picturing high major basketball players not being able to handle it.... They need to work on that mental toughness.

When I say it was a joke, this is what I mean. Surely the team and coach could see that the petition was not legit. Peop!e could sign it multiple times. It had CCM signature on it multiple times. It had celebrities names and names of dead people. It was unverified and it was a joke.

Maybe he was past denial and anger before the horn sounded and by the time they were in the locker room he was on to bargaining, depression, or acceptance

Yeah I understood the press trying to turn it into a story but was surprised Zo and the players bought into its relevance....I have watched sports for years and things like this happen constantly.... Very coach that fans get frustrated with have a firecoach. Com website.... Fans threw a brick through Bill curry's office window..... Greg Burke was called a bastard in the daily beacon for missing a field goal.... Players get booed all the time...this was a petition that was started when the team was sucking and was filled with tons of fake names.....Zo wouldn't have faced near the heat if he followed Buzz but he followed the most successful coach that most of us have known..... He and the team really needed to grow a pair.

Some of these guys may have had HS and AAU coaches tougher than CRB. This generation of players are tougher than you think.

Good lord, lighten up Francis; I think you'd attempt to argue with an effin fencepost.

Dominic Woodson, McGhee, Carmichael, and Owens all either quit or were asked (or told) to leave. I think that Woodson was asked to leave.

The latter three didn't quit. They decided that they did not want to be coached by Barnes at UT, who didn't recruit them . So they made themselves available to coaches who would want them in their program. So they moved on. It happens every year several times. New coach or no new coach. I would guarantee that every UT BB player considered transferring or after Tyndall was fired.

Sorry, been busy. I never said we would win the tourney or even make it for that matter :) lol. I simply said that I like coach barnes and I see quite a bit of improvement in some of his players which is a sign of a good coach. Obviously, the lack of size on our team will continue to hurt us this season and recruiting is the only thing that can fix that. Personally I could see us winning a few games we arent supposed to come SEC play. Time will tell. Lets give the man a chance as he has a proven track record and is an outstanding man. Go Vols :)

I just finished watching the postgame news conferences for the LSU encounter in TBA last season. You can do the same if you go to the official website for UT. After seeing what Tyndall said about what he told his team at halftime and what Josh had to say about Tyndall's mood in the locker room, it is my opinion that Tyndall was livid. You may not have the energy to do this and prefer to act as though nobody knows anything about what they post. Sounds to me like a d...a$$ attitude!

Quitting implies to me giving up basketball. Transferring is the opposite. They want to play more and be more a part of a teams success. Speaking more so about JM here. Just sayin.

They quit being on the TN basketball team.

I guess they transferred on their teammates, coaches, and the UT fans.

I agree. He needs to be tough to get the very best out of them. He's been doing this a long time.

Barnes is ready to retire! I won't be surprised if he retired in the next 3 years. He doesn't even seem enthusiastic during the games! Next year he may be a little more firmer and enthused because majority of the players will be his recruited players.

Isn't that just his disposition? I don't recall him being at all demonstrative when he brought Texas to the TBA and was Loftened. But I haven't paid much attention to him before this year.

I'd be surprised to see him change his teaching style because of the origin of the players on his roster.

How many of Tyndall or any other former coach recruits will return next year?

I think he's under pressure to turn this program around, put UT back on the basketball map and live up to his reputation all at once. As has been said on VN in the past, that's going to take a lot of work. Don't think it will happen this year and probably not next year. But by his 3rd year, given his reputation, UT should be dancing at the ball. The question is do you want to just go to the ball or be the best dancer at the ball? Making the tournament isn’t enough, it’s what you do in the tournament once you get there.
