50 Greatest Players In Tennessee History

These lists are of course impossible to be accurate with and are a haven for debate. So here's my doubts about it ...

#1 Heath Shuler at #43, far below Casey Clausen and Condredge Holloway? If we are talking about the individual talent of the football player specifically, then Shuler was definitely the better of those 3. CH played with weak talent and Casey played with elite talent. But as far as QBs go, Shuler had a greater impact IMO.

#2 Jackie Walker ... had to read it to see if it was biased. As expected from SI it was bias and reasoning based on social issues instead of purely football elements. At least the writer admits his bias, which was refreshing. JW was still a UT great.

#3 Wilson > Manning. No. Wilson is obviously a UT great, but Manning is one of the upper echelon of CFB greats.

Pretty nice list tho OP / SI. Like a trip down memory lane. Enjoyed seeing the older era guys getting props in the top 10 also. Who knows who's "better", but still nice to see them on the list. :good!:

Yeah, he definitely put the work in, I wish he could have found some pics of the older Vols..Shuler in the 40s shocked me as well...he was a good as they come and may have been ahead of his time. He could have ran the zone read

Shuler would be excellent in this offense. He was way before his time. Love that guy. Fast and had a cannon...pretty accurate too. Tough as nails. Top 5 Tennessee qb all time. If he had stayed healthy could have been a decent pro.

Actually, he just had the terrible misfortune of playing for Norv Turner. Why would a team draft Shuler #1to play for a coach who would not let him step outside the pocket? It's kinda like trying to figure out why Chip Kelly paid Demarco Murray two fortunes to stand on the sideline in Philly this year. I guess Murray is just a bust as a RB,although he led the league last year.

Good list overall except Joey Kent and Johnnie Jones should have been included imo.

Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds is not on that list. He is one of the greatest players ever to wear the Orange.

It's hard to name best 100 let alone 50. Such efforts are subjective and serve the purpose of generating discussion/debate ... nothing more.

I had never heard of Chip Kell..but I guess if OL do their job you don't hear much about them...

Haven't looked through it yet, but if George Cafego and Beattie Feathers aren't near the top... it's fictional crap.

I remember Chip Kell from back in the day.
If I'm not mistaken, he was the first college football player to ever bench press 500 pounds.

Not to have hacksaw on this list is just ridiculous. He and Kiner were a great pair and Jack was an all American twice. I knew Jack and he was the most intense player I have ever been around. Not having him on this list but Jackie Walker stinks
Nothing against Walker but really?
