Is Barnes too tough on his players?

All coaches from middle school level and up yell at players at some point. No matter how mellow they are. If you don't think so you're naive.

I was on a team in Junior High school that hadn't lost a game. We were trailing one time at the half. Our coach cussed us out in the locker room. It was shocking... you could hear a pin drop between each of his words. We kicked the holy **** out of that team in the second half and went on and finished the year undefeated.

Lol yeah that def would be a wake up call. I grew up with coaches that yelled. They yelled at the right times. Not just when they felt like it. Sometimes we would have lackluster practices. Or not focusing like we should have and they would yell. I never thought any different of them. It was the way it is. Sorry but if you're getting in your feelings because a coach yells a time a two then you might be a little baby. I never had coaches that full on cussed at us. But yelling was something that happened.

No. Bruce Pearl was the way to go.

He's loading the wagon at Auburn and would have had us already contending for the SEC this year. If only our leadership was not too arrogant or cowardly to seize the moment when they had it nearly laid in their laps. JMO.

Good lord get over it. And you need to cool your jets on the job he's doing at AU, they aren't exactly setting the world on fire.

I personally like coach Barnes. I like the effort he is getting out of his team. They are certainly not the most talented we've ever had in Knoxville but I see them improving every single game. Take Mostella, Baulkman and Alexander for instance. All three of them have improved noticeably since the season started. If we can get consistent play from them here on out, on top of what we pretty much know we're gonna get from Hubbs, Moore and Punter, then we may do better in SEC play than what most people think. Barnes had more success tournament wise at Texas than Tennessee has had in its programs entire history. I think we're very fortunate to have him as a coach and Texas may be wishing they had him back before its' all said and done. Go VOLS !!!!!

We play two competitive games against two top 25 teams and eke past several cupcakes and all of a sudden, the reactionary thing to believe is that we are going to have to be reckoned with in the SEC. Dream on.

Sad circumstances when ya get no argument.

Except for personal insults I wouldn't expect much disagreement.

Don't even act like he's trying to have an actual discussion, his agenda is clear.

Not to mention it being quite stupid since the exact same thing can be said about last season and yet he was one of the ones going on about how awesome we were.

I do not recall ever saying how awesome we were last season. I do know that we won 6 games that no one gave us any chance to win and I have asked the question in THIS THREAD about how many games this season does anyone predict that we will win that we are heavy underdogs in. So far, no answers.

None of that matters.....you either make the tourney or you don't.

You either build a solid program or you don't.

CDT failed at both of those options.

What 6 games did we win last year that we were "heavy underdogs" in?

Tyndall never had a chance to succeed due to his own fault. Do you think that Barnes will be successful here, and when?

If a school has to depend on an invitation to postseason, then we must consider the politics involved.

I think he will make it in year three, maybe four at the latest and then be consistently in the tourney.

We don't have to consider the politics.....stay off the bubble and you don't have to worry about it.

No reason to concern ourselves with CDT bc we have no clue how he would have done....obviously he couldn't build a program bc he kept getting busted.

Yes, getting busted was his downfall. Had not this occurred we would have Chris Clarke and Rob Gray on the roster now and Romello White next year. Who knows what other good players he would have recruited!

Since he was busted at his previous two stops it was too risky to keep him around. Plus, since he was another proven liar it couldn't be determined if he was still cheating while at TN. It would have been interesting to see how he would have performed with a full SEC level roster though.
