Is Barnes too tough on his players?

You liked his defense? It seemed like the Vols were constantly getting abused by open 3 pointers with no adjustments from the coaching staff.

I did like it. Thought it was the only way to be competitive with such inexperienced bigs. I was astonished with how well we rebounded out of it. We played tough as nails under that cheat.

I think that zone would have evolved out of the sagging one to protect the basket with more experience with the bigs and the 3pt defense would have improved

My policy, at any age I've been:

I don't get screamed at. You scream at me, I scream back louder. Under no circumstances will you use a position of authority to demean me. And if I'm six six and 240, you might wake up with an IV and ice packs. I respect you and listen to you, you gonna respect me. Any of this not clear?

CDT looked great until January. He was winning games and how many recruits did he bring in in a very short window? Was it 7 signees? 4 posts and 3 perimeters? The 3 guards are heavy contributors and the 4 posts either quit or were asked to leave.

You would be cut from my team

Who was asked to leave?

I've seen the same interview of KP and Armani talking about their role, the coach, and their teammates three times (3rd time on the hour special last night w/Kesling). They seemed very loose and they described CRB the same way...loose and funny. If Barnes is a big hardass then they are expert liars.

Its said that he does a lot of picking on the players and prank jokes! He doesnt have a hard assests aattitude as of right now! Maybe age has played a part in his personality in practice!

Also, make up your mind. You've already posted that you think we're in good hands with Barnes and that you trust him, now you're saying it's going to hurt us bad.

I really don't want to say it, because I don't want to believe it, but I think Tennessee is ricks retirement home. In a bad way. He came here just to end his career on his terms imo. I hope I'm wrong, but i haven't seen enough fire from him, to believe he really wants to win here. Maybe it's just where it's not conference time. Maybe once conference play starts he'll be more active. But so far,
The only thing he's gave me to be excited about are Parker and Williams. I highly doubt we get Bruno, and I highly doubt we get any top 20 player. I hope and pray I'm wrong, but that's how I see it. Next year could be a good year like I said, so next year is when I will have my final verdict.

I agree with you, but I think next year might be worse record wise.

I like the fact that all our freshman will have another year under their belt, they've shown promise. Alexander is my favorite as of now, if Parker and turner can contribute i see no reason this team can't win over 17 games.

Which coach is it that never yells at his players?

Me. I never yell at any player. I raise my voice if I have to call over the noise of practice, but why would I yell at someone who does something for fun? These middle schoolers aren't getting paid to listen to that crap.

I assistant coached the 7th grade team at a local middle school in college for 2 years and I never yelled. We were pretty close to .500 both years and filled with nerdy white boys. Although there is a huge difference between middle school and college, I think players respond better to coaches who lead by example and use positive reinforcement rather than anger. Nothing worse than an overly aggressive and foul-mouthed head coach. See: Kevin O'Neill. He was the worst.

I coached middle school ball in college on a volunteer basis for 2 years with a friend and it was a blast.

We didn't have a lot of height, and ran a motion offense both seasons and it was a blast. I feel like the boys learned a lot about the fundamentals too. When your team doesn't have a true post player it's important to have a good ball-distributing point guard and to utilize the baseline and peremeter corners to get open looks.

Was Coach Summit too hard on her players?

/thread

I went to UTK before the 20 hour rule. The Lady Vol BB players I knew had no life. They practiced very early every morning and practiced after class. I do not know if she used profanity, but she was tough as nails and could really stare down the players.
She got the most out of her players and the 20 hour rule hurt her.
