I cut the chord with Comcast two days ago.

Got a Roku 3 and signed up for Sling TV and added the kids channels ( total of $25/month).l because if there not a dancing animal of some sort for my three year old, heads will roll. I will probably add the extra sports networks next fall (includes SEC Network). The Roku Streaming Stick is free with Sling but they still sold me he 3 for half the price.

Telling Comcast they priced themselves right out of a customer and to pound sand was a beautiful moment for me.

The DVR for Dish is amazing, you seriously can record what feels to be an unlimited amount of games, movies, series, kids shows, ect and always have the ready to play.

It is much better IMO than Comcast ever dreamed of being.

Agree with all this. Hated Comcast, switched to Dish and have been happy.

The only issue I've come across is when sometimes there are conflicts among TV's when too many things are apparently recording (1 hopper and 2 joeys). Might be some sort of user error on my part though.

I tried this but I can't get high speed internet and the picture turned out to be horrible. It would cut out in games and all around the quality was not there. If you have high speed internet I would give it a try. We went to directv and have had no issues since.

Yea I have blast speeds (150 Mbps) i bet att gigabit is not too far behind in my neighborhood. What speeds did you have where it didn't work? Curious how slownincan get away with.

My DirectTV had a very brief interruption just last night during a hard rain. I've had mine interrupted maybe 5 times in the last year since I've had it but it usually just a quick freeze and back up in 1-5 minutes. I think the longest its been out was maybe 30 minutes just once

I can't believe none of you mentioned the DirecTV "Friends & Family" plan!

Chuckie...if you decide upon DirecTV, speak to a friend or family member who is a DirecTV subscriber and take advantage of this. You will get a $100 credit upon signing up and your friend/family will also receive a rebate or credit of $100.

But, all of this has to be done up front. If not, they won't give you the credit and rebate.

I have Time Warner still. But here is a trick to save money. Instead of paying monthly fees for boxes I only have one main one and then use Roku 2 boxes at my other TV's saves me roughly $25 a month. The Roku has a Time Warner App. that gives me all the channels I have inside even out in the garage. Once Google Fiber is complete I may go the Sling Box/Roku route.

They all have their issues. DirectTV has better packages than dish. If you like NFL, that could be a big factor. Dish has redzone which is cheaper than Direct TV Sunday ticket. I only watch the redzone channel on my Sunday ticket. Sunday ticket comes free for first year with direct tv but is crazy high after. I wasn't going to renew Sunday ticket but after I watched the free preview week 1 they called and offered it to me for only $5 a mth so I was like heck yeah. They must have needed to bumps ratings. I'm not sure if they do that every year though. There will be the rain/weather issue but it doesn't last long.

The only thing I dislike about direct tv is the random harassing phone calls telling me what free preview package they will be adding to my account for crap I don't care about and then customer service isn't local.

True, but I still remember our B&W TV tuned to Xmas specials with those guys & Sinatra. (Yuck.) I would have preferred watching Gunsmoke, the Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, the Rebel, or any other of a dozen Westerns airing then.

Iam one of the lucky ones.I live in the Chattanooga area and have EPB cable and internet.Can't beat the speed of the WiFi and when you call them a person actually answers the phone.Plus my bill hasn't changed in 5 years.

When I left Chattanooga, it was a dirty town and backward as hell! Now it's an advanced Mecca. My mom got addicted to the internet because of this EPB. Don't know if it would be practical ie PROFITABLE for a larger town...would love for DFW to test it tho.

Alright folks...I seriously appreciate all the information/advice. I don't have access to U-Verse or I would probably give it a try. And, the fastest HS internet available to me is 100 MBPS for $75 per month. But I'm probably going to go with a 50 MBPS plan that is $47 per month (since this whole switch is about saving some $$). Pretty sure I'll go with DirecTV...I like their packages better and it looked like some of the key channels that my family would watch are in SD on Dish.

I'm not exactly sure, I do know that the really highest speed internet services are not offered where I live, hence I live in the boondocks. It sounds like you would have no problem with the streaming with your internet.

My internet just couldn't keep up with the picture but the channels offered were exactly what I wanted and definitely worth it. If I move to a place where a higher speed internet is available I will for sure try Sling TV again.

I have been wondering if sling would work for me. We want to give it a try. Have had dish for years. And I like them but they have gotten too high

I agree that Direct has better packages, but I think Dish is more ethical in their billing. If you get Direct, just watch your bill. They will let it balloon out in a hurry.
