I have to prove elite-level discipline to have an opinion on a guy who would put down the Blind School of the Holy Rosary if it was on his schedule?

And if you're so old and worn out, why start the season? There are plenty of months in the year to step away. Heck, 75% of the year is available.

I'm not calling the man a demon (which plenty did in his coaching days). I just think he chose a poor time. You guys pick a weird candidate to bat for considering your team allegiance.

Pretty obvious how USCe feels about their most successful HC in history.

I understand your point of view, Writer. Your earlier posts on the subject seemed to have more vitriol. It is an attitude of I/we control you if you sign this contract - regardless of the language in the contract that provides for voluntary resignation as well as termination under certain events. The players and their families are aware that a coach may leave at any time and the contract - it's readily accessible. If they choose to go to a school only because of the coaching staff instead of the school, that is their voluntary choice.

No fan of the man...just thought the criticism of how he ended it was bull...so I posted thusly. :hi:

If Ryan walked out on his team due to a spat with the AD about his successor that is rumored then he gets the same criticism spurrier got from me.

Finish what you start should be a lesson learned in athletics players and coaches alike.


Health issues only reasonable excuse for quitting on a lockerroom in the middle of a season

That's why they're called rumors...FACTS are known. Short of facts, I hear Spurrier had the right to go out whenever he felt like it.

I don't think there are any qualified judges on this board. Right and wrong are opinions and under every one's individual purview. I guess you can pretend to be able to do something about it. :hmm:

Athletics are about life lessons and quitting when times are tough is a sign of lack of character

Not going to disagree if you don't like or agree with his decision, but still not a moral issue. Snorting coke in coaches office, yep, moral issue.

That said, is it right for a leader to continue to lead, when they know they don't have what it takes, therefore taking everyone down with them. Some would say that's wrong.

So he made a mistake and thought he had one more year, but when he discovered he was wrong he should keep dragging the team down just for pride's sake?

And team allegiance has literally 0 to do with whether someone's actions are acceptable or not.

And yes, you do have to experience that level of elite discipline to have an informed opinion on whether someone should walk away immediately or not. If Butch's body and mind were preventing my team from being successful, I'd prefer he step down immediately.
