Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

It all depends on your definition for "building a program".

Majors took 9 seasons to win SEC.

Fulmer took 5 seasons to win SEC, 6 to win BCS.

Saban won SEC West in 2nd yr at Bama, SEC & BCS in 3rd year - only Urban @ UF and tOSU is in the same category.

What is the expectation @ Tennessee for a program that has arrived?

IMO it means top 25 every year, top 10 every other year, win sec east every 3rd or 4th yr, win sec 1-2 times per decade, compete for national championship (i.e. Playoffs) 1-2 times per decade.

agree with this criteria. the last two are about our average since the SEC began so that should be doable.

I don't think Dabo is that great a coach, but he was in the ACC title game in year 2 and won it in year 4. How is it just now a good program?

He had multiple years inbetween those where they weren't that great or in the conference championship.

Florida seems to have blown that theory out of the water.

Didn't his Malzahn and Gene Chizik go to a natty their 2nd season? So no, it doesn't at all. Just because Florida won 10 games doesn't make them a good program in the future

You know improving upon a really bad coach doesn't necessarily make someone a good coach, right?

Yea, I guess having the second best rushing offense in the sec and one of the highest scoring offenses in the SEC doesn't mean anything. Ok, bud, keep thinking that.

Oh, and he produced one of the best rushing attacks Tennessee has EVER seen and one of the best overall offenses Tennessee has seen in a while.

Actually, I was wrong. Conference title game in year one. Then 6-7, then 10-4 conference champs. Then 11-2 in year 4 with another conference title game, then 11-2, 10-3 and now 13-0. And they're just now a good program?

This is going over your head. Saying it took a long time to make South Carolina good has no bearing on Tennessee. Of course it took a long time there. It's freaking South Carolina.

You act like Tennessee was good before Butch took over. 5-7, 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7 with recruiting classes around 20-25 isn't exactly a power house. Not to mention most of our good juniors left the year CBJ got here.

It means Tennessee has an incredible RB and a QB that also runs a lot. How shocking that we have good rushing numbers

They were inconsistent. What they are about to do in the next couple years is much better then they did when they went 11-3 and 10-3. Like I said before, just because you have a little success doesn't make you a good program. Look at auburn with Gus Malzahn and the. With gene chizik.

And we still have the biggest recruiting budget in the country, one of the biggest stadiums, and some of the best facilities anywhere. But sure, I bet South Carolina and their all-time losing record is in pretty much the same situation.

Yup, it's not like Debord also improved the O-line A TON and called the plays and coached them all off-season. Since the players are sooo good let's just not even have them be coached since Debord had nothing to do with any of it.

Before this season, they had four straight 10-win seasons and 3 ACC title game appearances, including a win. But they weren't a good program yet haha

So what is the stanndard that is set for teams to rebuild? And if there is one, who set it?

Telling people about our big stadium and nice facility only works so much.... CBJ has completely had to rebuild us.

Malzahn went to the natty... Whats your point? I guess they are automatically a good program? Lolol
