When you can't get a quality q.b. and you have to run a gimmick offense to mask his deficiencies, this will happen.
Gus ran that offense at Arkansas State and as the O.C. at Auburn and now as the head coach at Auburn. Eveyone has caught on to his gimmick.
When he was at Arkansas as the O.C. he ran D. McFadden, Jones & the big, bruising full back. Can't recall his name. But they had a three headed rushing attack.
A gimmick that has a title and a title game appearance... Ok.
His glaring deficiency is not having a competent QB.
Nick Marshall almost won a national title as a QB. Let that sink in. that is superior coaching
That is not a gimmick offense. They're base plays are powers and counters and then he exploits defenses with satellite plays off of his base plays.
They run like 4 plays with different variations. They are a gimmick. Didn't look superior going 14-11 (6-10) over the last two seasons.
I'm pumping the brakes on Malzahn being the genius coach he is portrayed as.
This is the only recurring dream I have. I get to class and I've forgotten my homework or some big project. I'm all nervous and sick feeling about it. Then I wake up.
I'm in my mid-30's.
Same as us correct?
Same here - I'm a few years older than you. My version - it's finals week and I just discover a class I never attended and need to get to the final. I can't find the classroom.
Look, I'm not going to get into dissecting offenses. That gets over my head very quick.
If Malzahn's offense can't be considered gimmicky then I don't know what can.
I am not sold on him being a superior coach. They have loads of talent down there and they went 6-6 and were lucky to do so.
Does he have a QB? No. Who's job is that? And why is that an excuse when his O ran perfectly fine with a converted receiver in year 1?
Perception of Malzahn is that he is a genius. I no longer buy it.

And a QB so bad they had to use a rb at arky. And a no name at Tulsa. Gus is a good coach. Not infallible, but from strictly an offer some scheme and playcalling perspective, I'd take him over any coach in the sec, including ours.
