What gets me are the people who instantly see penalties even up in the nose bleeds. Maybe I just suck at watching football, but I'm always amazed at people who spot holding from the upper deck during the middle of a big play (before a flag is even thrown) or a block in the back on a return. I can't watch anything but where the ball is when watching live, especially in person.

I try to watch the line of scrimmage. You can tell a lot more about who is actually winning the game by seeing which team is getting the push in the trenches. It's not always reflected in the scoreboard early on, but it tends to prove itself over time. I see tons of penalties before the flag is thrown as a result.

It also keeps you from getting too emotional based on the results of every play. Sometimes you're getting great push up front, but the defender just makes a great play and stops a run short. You didn't get a big gain on the run, but you know the push is there and that over time you'll see some of those break through.

I love to watch blocks ahead of the play too. You can usually tell if a play is going to work or not early on depending on how the blocks are executed. It rarely depends solely on the ball carrier.

A lot depends on people's backgrounds. My Dad and I have season tickets. He's an ex football ref and is exactly like you described above, sees almost every penalty. Gets more worked up about the officiating than anything else.

On the other hand I played offensive guard in high school, and watch the guards almost every play as my "key" for pass/run, etc.

I did this on Cams punt return against Vandy. I saw the flag thrown and he broke free and everyone jumped up and was cheering but I just sat there because I saw the flag and knew it was coming back. Little did I know it was on Vandy lol

Did the exact same thing. Even made a comment to my mom about all the poor people still cheering that hadn't realized it was coming back yet. Felt pretty stupid on that one, haha.

You know that feeling you get when you completely inexcusable **** something up but don't know about it until it's too late? Well just got a big dose of that feeling.

Was doing a late night cram session for my last two finals tomorrow morning. I decided to look at the syllabus's time for the exams just to make sure the time I recorded wasn't off by a bit-- basically being slightly anal about stuff-- only to see that both exams were actually this morning... I don't even know what to do with myself right now. I emailed both professors but I might have just royally ****ed myself.

They may be willing to give you an IP, or whatever the equivalent is at UT, if they are not willing to let you take the exams today or tomorrow. A professor did that for me once. Now that I'm a professor, I try to remember that students need to learn from mistakes, but sometimes the scare they get is enough and there's no need to make them suffer to learn.

I had a similar situation my senior year at UT but not to this degree of bad. I had been drinking all day at the Woodlands pool (spring semester) thinking that my final was the following afternoon when I got a call asking where I was from one of my buddies in the class. So I rolled in about 30 mins late and wreaking of beer I'm sure but the professor let me go ahead and take the exam but wouldn't give me anymore time than the other kids had. Luckily this was a film history class and I had watched all the films so I still did okay.

If I were you I'd be at both professor's offices tomorrow morning hat in hand and ready to take the exams.

Yeah man I had to take an Incomplete on my freshman year biology class because I messed up the times for the final. Then, to compound things, no one told me I wasn't supposed to re enroll for the next Bio class and it turned into an F on my transcript I found later. :/ My overall gpa was 3.6 so you can imagine how I felt about an F being on there!

This reminds me of a story about a NFL owner or GM. They were playing miserably and as the second half progressed, the fans began booing louder and louder. After the game, the press asked him how bad the booing made him feel. Frustrated, he responded, "not much at all really. Those folks have been tailgating for 3 hours before the game and have been pounding beers throughout the first half. I'm not sure if I should really look for advice or worry about the opinion of someone who's been drinking for the better part of the day. We may look like we don't know what we're doing, but rest assured, most of them won't either."

Does a dominant bowl win impact our recruiting much?

We just need the win. We need 9-4 next to our name and 6 straight wins heading into recruiting season. Whether we win by 5 or 50 won't matter but we do need the 9th win to show progress.

We are going to beat Northwestern by 20+ though.

This...all day.

MockingVol, you want to be as personable as possible and showing contrition and sincerity face-to-face is the best way to do that. An email won't do that, trust me.

As a former professor, I had plenty of students that would miss labs, tests, etc. I would schedule a time for them to make it up and they would miss that too. No explanation.

And then sometimes get mad at me when they received bad grades.

If you go in person, are genuinely sorry, and can make it up on their convenience, you should be ok.

...provided you havent been skipping/slacking through the semester.

Watching some of the highlights for Evan Berry with all the tweets etc for his awards and first he is a stud but, Micah Abernathy is the best lead kick return blocker in the country as well. He springs or helps spring him on some outstanding blocks on almost everyone of his big returns.

Abernathy will be a good/great CB.
