I never understood the whole concealed carry thing . SO , anyway what is the whole I can carry a weapon and no-one else will know . Honest question here . It's a little hard to conceal mine . I know I lived in North Carolina for 12 years . If you owned it you could strap it on .

Because no one else needs to know that I'm carrying a weapon.

If a bad guy(s) can see the weapon when they attack they will take you out first before you can respond. If they think it is a soft target environment and start shooting or taking hostages you can use the opportunity to end it before they focus individually on you. I realize that the response is limited in that it's imperative they cannot see you going for the gun, However, the bad guy(s) cannot focus on everything around them at once, so you have an element of surprise as well.

When states with a large number of citizens participating publicize concealed carry - violent crimes go down significantly. But the lying left wing doesn't like citizens taking control of their situations since they lose power and votes. By nature most violent criminals and terrorists are chicken excrement anyway.

Why does anyone feel like they need to carry a gun all the time? Just curious. My dad was a cop for 40 years. He only carried on duty. Are y'all afraid of something? Is it an ex military thing? Or do you feel more comfortable with it by your side going out to do anything. I'd honestly feel paranoid all the time with a gun on my side. Like I said, just curious. Nobody I know my whole life carries a gun on them. Just wanting a perspective.

Because there are way more idiots in the world that will hurt you to get something from you or just gun you down for no reason at all. It's very unlikely that you end up in that position BUT I'd rather be prepared than be dead. Not really paranoia but preparation.

Because the world has changed. I never use to carry off duty myself. If you did the training we did you would want to be prepared as well.

Attacks aren't going to stop its just the beginning. Odds are you wont ever be in that situation but I'd hate to be stuck somewhere hiding behind a theater chair or a door with no way to protect my family.

Protection, just in case. Ok, thanks.

Protection again. Just in case something happened. I get it. Thanks..

I liken it to a fire extinguisher. You may never use it your whole life. But in a moment of need it could save you and your whole family.

Wow. Times have changed.

What do y'all think about the people on the no fly list that can go in and buy a gun anywhere?

I'm not sure about the no fly list because I'm not sure what all gets you on the list.

Now if your on the terror watch list you shouldn't be able to **** without a background check. Most of the people on these watch lists aren't even United States citizens but the liberals say we shouldn't surveil them and can't tap their phones.

If your not a citizen you shouldn't have rites as a citizen.

If you want to become a citizen and are willing to go through all the background checks and testing to become a citizen I'm 10000% behind you. Most of these people love America way more than most of us who take are freedoms for granted.

So Do I . I just never understood the whole HIDE your gun thing . Ever try to hide a m1911a1 in shorts and a tee shirt ?

Because no one needs to know you are carrying one until you need to use it. Your gun isn't there to impress people, its there to protect your life and the lives of others. The element of surprise is always a tactical advantage that should not be given up.

Well said.

The AR is just do much faster and easier to spray a room full of people than other semi auto guns. More shots in a shorter time=more casualties

An AR doesn't shoot any faster. One bullet per trigger pull like anything else. You can argue less magazine changing but that's pushing it.

Well if you're on the no fly list means you are a threat. Which is why it makes no sense they can go buy a gun.

Sadly, this new era of extensive background checking is going to be the norm. But it's the best protocol and has to happen. There needs to be an upgrade for more inclusive checking coming into this country. The coward terrorists has put everyone on edge and unfortunately that's the way it's going to be.

What I meant about not knowing on the no fly list. If you have a bad experience on a plane and say something to an airline employee. If they run and say he threatened me or something can it get you on a no fly list?

There are many things I can think of that might get you on a no fly list like this. I'm not sure if they will but I would need the details before I said yes it should be this way.

Now if the FBI has added you to the terror watch list there's probably a damn good reason.

I agree with the terror watch list.

I agree with the terror watch list. That one is obvious.

I don't think drunk Sally who yelled at a stewardess during flight is going to be on the no fly list. Crap happens on planes a lot and there's consequences, but usually not on a no fly list. I'm sure the FBI has a laundry list of people that are on the no fly list. But I'm sure we agree that those people should not be allowed to buy guns.

Good questions. Although I would guess there are people you know well are carrying concealed guns.

On carrying it all the time - not 24/7 with me. I carry when in many public environments and while traveling much of the time. I also feel I have the responsibility to protect not only my family and friends, but others in distress from bad guys/gals. Law enforcement resources are spread thin and they encourage CCP usage by law abiding citizens.

Examples: 1) In 2008 a friend was at her Knoxville Unitarian Church watching her granddaughter in a children's play when a crazy gunman came in, started shouting and threatening people with a shotgun because he thought they were all libs and ruining the country. He started shooting, killing a couple of people and injuring others. Nobody there with a gun to put him down. Finally a handful of men in the congregation got to him and wrestled him down. (2) Our former church offered Celebrate Recovery. Numerous drug offenders and even a few pedophiles attended to meet their parole requirements. It made for a scary environment at times for many in the congregation as they would linger outside at night and make comments toward the female congregation members as they entered and left the church. After an attempt to groom one of our church youth by a pedophile, who was later that year arrested and convicted of molesting a mentally handicapped child (his third offense) in a local restaurant's restroom, the congregation insisted on security. This was provided by off duty police officers and CCP lay members that had received security training from the officers. The liability insurer was pleased. No more issues. (3) Having worked in downtown offices, I have been stalked by vagrants on my way back to my car in the evening. A simple placing of my handgun in my hand while getting my keys out of my pocket sent them on their way. During that period a rape of a woman leaving work late in the evening occurred in the stairwell of the same garage despite security cameras, lighting, etc. Had a person with a handgun like me been there, she might not have been traumatized by the filth of this earth.

I could give more examples, but you catch my drift.

This x1000!! I pray that I, nor my family are ever in a crisis situation. However, if I/we are, I want to be prepared to take any means necessary to protect ourselves.
I understand your father was a cop for 40 years. In his career did he make media junkies glorify in all these crazies trying to outdo one another, doubt it. The world has always been dangerous, but it seems to be a tad more volatil these days and you never know when or where Some idiot will want to make a name for hisself, or dare I say...his/her religion!!

Oh, and a 1911 is my daily carry, albeit a 3" Kimber, but any of my 4/5" 1911s are just as easy to conceal, just heavier.

What are yall using for holsters? I use a crossbreed IWB. Love it.

terrorist shoot up a Christmas party and the first thing the dems want to do is take our guns so you can't defend yourself smart very smart do just the opposite carry permit & carry often all the time .

Ok, thanks. Interesting kinda odd examples. I sorta see your drift on the last example. Also, nobody I know carries a gun. Don't assume.

So I know majority here love their guns like children, but I'm interested to find out more examples. How many times has a civilian minding their own business shot a crazy person trying to kill innocent people to prevent a massacre and became the hero?
