I agree that he's been inconsistent. But why are so many in such a rush to write off our young players as busts?

Malone has shown flashes of being a really good receiver in this conference. He still has up to two more seasons to improve. He may not be a future 1st round pick, but he can certainly help us.

He has the body type and measurable's to become a 1st round pick though. That's why people remember and choose to cling onto the positive moments.

I think JRM was referring to Randolph when talking about the tears.

I didn't do the best job of clarifying this. But when someone listed the 5 players (Kendrick, North, JRM, Sutton, and Kamara), he replied and said 3 of them were on there, and 2 others he heard about were not. He earlier stated that there was a lot of potential out of the guys he heard. Which leads me to believe that the 2 that were not named might be a tough loss.

Even if he stays, he won't be top two rounds. When he gets in the league, he balls out like similar (but smaller at same stage) linebackers Derrick Brooks and Jessie Armstead.

Tennessee history is full of receivers that didn't produce until their junior or senior seasons. There's no reason at all to call Malone a bust.

Butch Jones spoke at the Knoxville Quarterback Club at lunch today, before heading out recruiting.

Mentioned (paraphrasing) "this is the age of transfers, but the grass is sometimes greener around the septic tank."

There are always some defections, let's hope it's not too many/too important of players.

He also said the assistants would be out on the road all week, and he is joining them now.

I agree that Dormady and Jones are better alternatives than Peterman would have been. But its still not a good situation regardless. At least not this year.

And also last year we had Dobbs on the bench going into the season. He at least wasn't a true freshman. So I would say going into last year QB depth was better.

Freshman Dormady would have struggled in my opinion. That was my only point. It would have been a really tough spot to put him in. I could be wrong, but just playing off of percentages, most freshman QB's aren't ready for the SEC. We could have done it. All I'm saying is that it's not ideal and may have cost us one of the late season games.

Dobbs health kept us from having to explore that route with anything on the line.

Quit acting like Dobbs staying healthy should have been a given. Come on. This is football. There is no magic way to avoid hits. Dobbs is good at putting himself in good positions. But he was banged up for some of the season and played through it.

Allow ME to clarify...Kamara makes no sense! I can see the rest, for reasons previously stated. 3 of those names (JRM,Sutton and Kamara) would sting...NONE would devastate. :hi:

Probably the best grass guy in the south east works with my brother. He is the guy who fixed the Bucs field at Raymond James. He went to auburn to learn their technique and process forhow they grow their grass in sections with thicker roots and implemented it and Ray J is beautiful. They play college games on Saturday and Bucs games on Sunday's and have no issues. And they get tons more rain than anywhere in the country
It's all about getting a guy with the knowledge and know how to implement the plan.

We haven't had a "good backup QB situation" since Tee backed up Peyton...and fans would have been jumping off the stands if that had been tested. Dobbs not getting hurt? When did I say it was a "given"? Just not worth the consternation and handwringing and virtual guarantees ON HERE that we would NEED our backup. Oh he got dinged? I fell into a pool once and got wet! :)

I thought Kamara was only a RS Sophomore and you had to be at least a Junior to enter the draft. However, I do think Kamara could try and be an undrafted free agent. Is that correct?

I really hope both Sutton and Maybin stay. Our D would be so nasty with both of them back.

I'm definitely not in a rush to write off young players. I love almost all of our young players. Their talent jumps off the screen at you.

I don't see that talent with Malone. I don't see the flashes. He just seems like an average talent who gets pushed around in big boy football. Even if he gets tougher, I don't see all the measurables people always refer to with him. He's 6'3. That's about it. He's not dangerous with the ball in his hands, isn't particularly quick or hard to stay in front of, and isn't some physical freak who you need to get the ball to. He's an average SEC level type of talent. There are simply other young skill position players on our roster who are a lot more exciting in my opinion. Malone gets all the attention (to his detriment) due to his recruiting profile.

I'm pretty sure you just have to be 3 years removed from high school to enter the draft, so junior or RS sophomore. Either way, they're eligible.

RS Sophomore = Junior in terms of years out of high school.
