Coaches leaving the Tennessee program

As many as half the staff could change over this off season

Isnt this the case every year with nearly every major program; "half the coaches ""could"" or ""may"" leave?

Some pushed to find other jobs; some take better positions; some make lateral moves for various reasons.

Larry which do we fall in this off season?
My guess is IF we have more than a couple changes it will be a mix of all three.

I do think all 3 reasons are possible

Through their own will or fired? Do you think this is a good or bad thing for UT?

Both but I doubt firings announced as such. More like let them find something else.

I think it is good starting in year 3 to start changing over assistants. After being close to Fulmer's staff and watching some get lazy over time, I think 6 years is max for letting assistant coaches stay in one place. Just an opinion I have

The only thing that scares me about that is that Butch will be making the hires.

At this stage, it would not surprise me if Butch hired some PE teachers from Mount Pleasant, MI saying they were overlooked diamonds in the rough and would constitute the new BSiA.

If Butch went out there and made some fantastic hires with Hart opening the checkbook, I could sit back all off-season in glorious anticipation of a return to the Decade of Dominance.

That's just plain silly! Plain silly even for you! Just sit back and watch it play out...then we can praise or berate!

We need to upgrade at a few positions..WR and Secondary coaching is at the top of that list..IMO? Do you agree? And a true QB Coach would be great too. Let Debord handle the OLine full time, get rid of Mahoney then there is room to hire one.

I agree with those two and the OL coach. They will hire a QB coach for certain. Might be the guy there now but could go outside if the right guy happens.

Forget Tee. Don't see he and Butch working with each other. both mis-led the other in their dealings so be tough to work out. As far as Terry, not sure I call that an upgrade over Martinez. Trading someone who ha coached over 20 years for someone who has one year?? There are better one's out there.

and I like Terry a lot personally.

Do you really just drop comments like this intentionally leaving out any of the particulars just to watch us get riled up?

Why would anyone get riled up?? its common every off season for coaches to move around. We know we need a QB coach next season so we have a requirement we currently don't have on staff. There are about 15 FBS college jobs that have come open so it is not far fetched that some of our guys get pursued. Our assistants are under paid so they are easy targets.

I don't have particulars I care to share at this juncture.

You don't have to prove yourself to them

The tidbits are welcome

It is because you were vague.

You do this. You drop a one sentence line hinting you are in the know that includes 0 shreds of relevant details. Stuff you could have just mentioned in the first place, because the vagueness leaves it up for interpretation in a pretty big way.

People proceed to ask questions for pages and you answer them, bit by bit. Milking it out.

Now bring on the haters because I know that they salivate over your every keystroke, but whatever....I think you do it on purpose

He is the owner of his keyboard and also owns a slice of that freedom of speech. I reckon he can type it however he wants??? Just like you can criticize it, if you feel it's worth it.

I for one appreciate the info. It's more info than I had before and probably more than you had too.

The best thing DeBord did this year, IMO, is recognize how Kamara could help us catching passes--but would like to see him even get down the field occasionally instead of just catching swing passes. Getting him in space was a must-do this year, and we were fairly successful at it.

I don't really have any predictions for staff turnover. But I'm sure we'll see a bit. I don't think it will necessarily be a bad thing as long as we can hold onto guys like Gillespie/Elder/Stripling.

IMO, a little turnover at a few spots could be great for the staff. Bringing in some new blood could revitalize some of our underperforming positions if we get the right guy.

Really? I didn't get one piece of solid info from it. Let's see. There might be a number of coaches change out in the off season. Okay. Anything else?

Anything?

I'm not seeing anything other than vague hand waving for effect here.

What did you get from it?

I got more from Fulmer and staff than succeeding staffs. But, with over 30 years of being around the athletic program I have made a lot of friends within the athletic department. and continue to make friends each year.

I've always gotten more information from non-coaching staff than coaching staff.

I can see why you think that but I've never thought of doing that. I don't spend a lot of time on message boards anymore. too many other things going on in my life.

I drop by message boards and see things being discussed and chime in. I may spend a little more time when I get it like now. But I won't sit here for hours talking on a message board anytime.

it also doesn't bother me if people ignore or take interest in what I say. I'm wrong a lot because things change. That's fine.

Then you really didn't understand what you're reading. Some people get tidbits that they may not feel comfortable sharing completely but can give hints. It's just the way lws shapes his posts

Is there anything of importance going on in regards to the Tuesday press conference?

After reading these Vol football message boards habitually for well over a decade now, I know for certain that you can take anything LWS says to the bank. Now he's definitely not a glass half full kind of guy, but he has more connections than 99 1/2 % of every Volunteer message board on the Internet. As such, he contributes more to this message board than you or I or 99 1/2 % of this board ever will. I, for one, enjoyed reading his recent posts. They were very informative, insightful, and even validated many things that have been discussed here. This is what real insider information looks like, and it's the kind of thing that I look for when I open this website 100 or so times a day.

My suggestion is that if you think LWS is just trying to get attention by sharing this information, simply put him on ignore.

The OP asked if people thought there might be coaching changes. LWS advised that there likely will and it might be up to half of the coaching staff, not just one or two. Let's us know that the plan is not to keep the entire staff in place...as many on here have suggested.
