Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXII

Not sure what talent you think he inherited, UM was literally at the bottom of the barrel when Larry Porter was coaching, laughing stock of all college football. IIRC, got beat by the likes of MTSU (several years in a row ) as well as UT Martin. Fuentes literally built that program from laughing stock to being mentioned as a playoff team possibility this year. I've always felt if someone was successful at UM, they can be successful just about anywhere. Great hire for VT and expect he will have them playing well. Will be interesting to watch our recruiting battles with them in the future.

I grew up in Memphis, came back for law school, and am now raising a family in Memphis. Larry Porter was a terrible coach but recruited some good talent while he was here. I have discussed this before and won't go back through it. But last year's team was a break out year, and there were key contributors that Larry Porter recruited. Bobby McCain is a rookie CB with the Dolphins, and there were other seniors that were major contributors. I know former Memphis players who even said that he was developing Porter recruits. That said, Fuente developed his talent and is a good schematic coach. Not saying anything negative because he did really well at Memphis. Just saying that recruiting is a slight question mark. Not sure why that is a bad thing.

Congrats to tame 119 for grinding, when they could've easily quit!! 5 wins in a row feels pretty sweet!! Has been way too long since we've done that. I want Michigan in the Outback.

One more thing… We can run the football against anyone! 331 rushing yards against one of the best defenses in the country. Debord has helped immensely in that category.

I really like our chances against virtually any bowl opponent we would get at 8-4. We will run it all over anyone at this point. Michigan is a good team, but they would give up 300+ on the ground to us, especially in a game where we can run Dobbs with reckless abandon.

Not suggesting what you said was bad, guess I just don't agree about the talent he inherited, and it's jmo. I feel Paxton is the key to their success, and he is JF's recruit.

What are your thoughts about Lynch declaring for the draft? I think if he is a first round pick, he should definitely go since he wouldn't be able to improve his draft status much. Since we both like the Cowboys, I would like to see them go after Lynch if he does go early.

I would think he declares because Fuente is moving on. If he gets a first round grade, he should definitely go. Interesting to suggest him going to the Cowboys. Romo probably has a couple of more years left in him.

I was not suggesting that Fuente was a bad coach because he isn't. But the defense was the strength of last year's team, and Porter had recruited some of the key contributors.

So last year Butch had a 1-game regular season improvement from his first year. This season was a 2-game improvement from last year. I'd like that trend to continue with a 3-game improvement next season :)

Romo's health may shorten his career, and even if he does have a few more years it wouldn't hurt to let the new QB get a year or two as understudy to Romo similar to Brock Osweiler at Denver.

Also we all know Azzanni is WR coach and Pass Game Coordinator, but heard on radio from Hubbs/Kessling he's also "Punt Return Coach."

Earning some coin in that last department for sure.

(They said some coaches on staff coach different parts of ST)

Not caught up on this thread or VN since before thanksgiving.

VOLS have won 5 straight and 13 of last 18 games.

Can't be slacking like that man. Get with it. :)

Seriously though, hope you had a good Thanksgiving. And yeah, five straight feels nice. Might as well make it six.

Some of the mock drafts have him #1 overall.
