Butch deserves NO Raise and NO extension

Think a lot of it is lack of depth in the 4th quarter..I know it was vs Oklahoma and Arky..we also came a lot closer to beating those teams than several who were more talented..three of them are 27-3!

The depth issue was msgnified against OU when our staff decided to extend the game in the 3rd quarter by throwing it all over the lot.

because I'm positive and not negative..Florida had a terrible coach and good players..we had a terrible coach who lost almost 75% of his recruiting classes..now we are catching up to other team's rosters thanks to the hard work of our coaches..despite tradition and facilities, our coaches have to convince players who probably grew up cheering for rivals to come to school here..he deserves a raise on his recruiting wins alone

And now you have entered the realm of bull****.

Recruiting means little in the long run without wins on the field. It is neither positive nor negative to wait until games are played to declare a victor. And your idea of Butch "convincing players who probably grew up cheering for rivals" flies in the face of his legacy class.

tell that to the other SEC teams that struggled with both[/QUOTE

Both games will be a struggle. 1-1 is very possible.

IF Dobbs foot is better then DeBord better turn him loose - if not he better come up with some better run designs - that up the middle crap isnt going to work against those defenses we dont have a OL line Alabama has.

I think so too..its a catch 22..do what you do best and you can make mistakes..get too conservative you go 3 and out...I've heard Debord say that they have had to slow down more than they wanted to sometimes to give the defense time to catch their breath

yeah because 5/29 with ties to the uni define a class..you keep on being negative and hoping that Santa brings you Gruden or Meyer to coach next year...I'll continue to support the man who was offered and accepted the job when others didn't want it

Or, I can continue to cheer for my team and hold the guy getting paid millions to coach them accountable. This "you have to support Butch" mentality is idiotic. There was a Vols football team before him. There will be a Vols football team after him. He is not the team. I want him to succeed because it's what is best for the Vols, but I'm not giving him a free pass. Guy still has a job to do, and he gets paid handsomely to do it.

How the hell are you going to hold him accountable. That is hilarious. Do you think anyone in this program gives a **** what you think? They can tell by reading a couple of your posts that you don't have a clue. If the only way you can see improvement is by looking at the win and loss record, you don't know anything about football.

Coaches were beating down our door when Dooley was fired. Get over yourself. you're having illussions of grandeur. Butch accepted the challenge, and is progressing. You and your ilk fail to realize that.

First, that should be delusions, and you sir(or maam) are delusional if you think you know everything that happened behind the scenes during that coaching search.

Put that money (for a raise) into the best natural turf out there... and hire the right grounds crew to maintain it.

It amazes me how many fans are happy with mediocrity. We did the same thing with Fulmer. 8 games doesn't deserve a raise.

First of all, I used illusions because I meant illusions. Secondly, I know just as much about the coaching search as you do. Coaches use their agents to leak news. There was no leaked news. Look at how many coaches are lobbying for the Maryland job. I don't recall those stories being leaked after DD was fired.

The AD very much cares what the collective fan base thinks. They're selling a product, and that product is football. I remember Doug Dickey making that very clear. Where have I said I didn't see improvement? Some people are making up comments that have not been made. Improvement was what Butch was hired for. That doesn't entitle him to a raise and an extension every year. If you believe it does, I question your business acumen.

They care about what most reasonable fans think. You are far from reasonable. The only way you would be satisfied is if we won every game by 50 points. You would probably find something to complain about then too. If you want to look at it like a business it is like he is bringing a business that was mismanaged for 10 years, was bankrupt and it's customers had lost faith in back to being a respectable business with a bright future. Not many business people go from bankrupt to a Fortune 500 company in 3 years.

"Going fast" is fine when you are picking up 1st downs and keeping ball. When you go 3 out you are killing a defense that is already thin.

You and your ilk create the vitriol by attacking anyone who has an opinion that differs from your own. Instead of constructive conversation, the term "nega-vol" is immediately trotted out. A bit of a misnomer, imo. I want what's best for the Vols, while you seem more concerned about Butch Jones. So which of us is really the "nega-vol"?

Weezer, a shorter description above would just be to say "Liberal". As an example "man, you sound just like a Liberal".

Hope that helps save you time for his next response:)

going from 5-7 to 7-6 to possibly 9-4 isn't improving the team?

Never said it wasn't improvement. But 9 wins is Butch's ceiling. He can't and won't beat Florida or Bama. He will find a way to lose to a random west team every year. Arkansas this year, Aggies next year.

Butch will stabilize the ship, but nothing more.

I've never wanted a Richt season. Ever. Not once. I'm not Bob, but check my stats.

That said, don't pretend like equaling Richt during his worst season is on par with Mark Richt type success.

This isn't Richt's worst season (6-7, 3-5 SEC in 2010). They'll likely finish 9-3 barring a loss to GT, possibly 10-3 if they win their bowl, which would be right in line with Richt's average win-loss record at UGA (if you include bowl wins-losses).

You should probably find another team to root for then. We almost beat Bama this year with far less talent and depth. When CBJ does beat Alabama and UF you will have an excuse like, well Bama was awful this year, so it doesn't really count. Some will never be happy.

The reading comprehension level of some posters is very questionable as they appear to see things that were not stated, nor were they implied. In other words, some of you are just making **** up.

I certainly hope we start beating Florida and Bama, but if we don't, will you continue to say "next year"?

You may be right about the ship....but you have no earthly idea to what his ceiling is! He may indeed surprise us.....but I think you may be very afraid of that.

Almost... Lol.

Participation trophy man. Almost means nothing. Butch will bee long gone before we find a coach to beat Bama and Florida.

Proof is sitting right out for everyone to see.

Tennessee will always, or almost always have less talent than Florida or Bama. Butch can't out coach them. That equals losses.

If you're concerned about what's best for the Vols, then you should be pulling for Butch to do well. Him succeeding means the same is happening for the Vols. I don't understand how any reasonable fan could think firing another coach and going through this whole rebuilding process again would be good for the program. Having to start again would not only drain the AD's coffers but also put us that much further away from where we'd all like the program to be.

That's where us negas disagree I suppose. Depth didnt keep our offense from letting up off gas pedal at FL and rely on defense to close the game out. Depth didnt decide to rush 3 on a 4th and 14. That weak zone caused that long td. Beginning of yr we had so much talent at wr and coaches didnt want to use it much.

Depth isnt great but I dont believe that's what got us beat.

Also how poorly they played against the last 2 teams who are not going bowling.

I believe the best coaches would have this team either as a 1 or 2 loss team. My opinion.

Maybe butch needs to look into upgrading some of the staff
