UFC Thread

I'm relatively young and haven't witness many huge sport moments. They may have happened but I may not have watched it "live" or old enough to remember.

I've seen Bonds pass Hank, MJ final game with Washington, Tyson lose to Mcbride (circumstantial history not really in this tier), Mayweather over Pacquio, Jeter and Chipper's final at bats, McNair avoid a sack to extend the final drive and eventually the Dyson stretch.....App state beat Michigan....

Then this..... Wow.

Not to be a one upper but I saw Hulk Hogan body slam Andre the Giant.

Good. I've disliked Rousey for a long long time and I hope she is humbled by this. I would be forever grateful if I never have to see her obviously trying too hard mean mugging again.

Don't overreact or anything.

It's a personal list of moments I consider great... That I've actually witnessed. Obviously there are some (over the last 25 years ) way better, that's why I included ones " I have actually witnessed." Do I need to add in the caveat a third time?

How is RR getting knocked out by Someone a 9-1 dog not worth mentioning?

Given how cocky and confident Rousey is, I don't think I've ever seen a spirit so broken and demoralized of over the course of a fight. Rousey kept pushing the fight while getting blasted but you could see it on her race, she's never been hit that hard and that many times. In between rounds, I've never seen someone suck so much wind. And by the end, the kick knocked her out and she took a couple more blows for good measure after she went down. She had no idea where she was. I'm just now watching it and she's still on the mat. Interested to see what she has to say after they raise Holms hand if she doesn't get escorted straight to the locker room for treatment. She looks f'ed up sitting on the mat with people telling her what just happened.

I think UFC and fans have made her into a bigger star than she is. Like in most womens sports, the drop off is drastic because the pool of females willing to do those things is smaller and usually even the best pro female is worse than the worst pro male. I'm pretty sure some people actually think(or at least thought) Rousey could beat male UFC fighters her size but as you saw, she steamrolled a bunch of girls who suck and the first second one in her league showed up, she was broken a mule. Holms made Rousey her b****. The fight wasn't even close. Kind of like all of Rousey's fights til this point.

I'm surprised Ronda Rousey got her clock cleaned

She looked awful in between rounds trying to breathe. Then I noticed when they were standing at the end to raise Holm's hand, we always see how impressive Rousey's body is. But her stomach just looked normal while Holm is rocking a 6pack. Rousey didn't look right at all. She never really tried to take Holm down. After she took a couple of punches, the look on her face changed. Who knows, she took a beating though.

There will be a rematch soon and i bet Rousey wins the Title back. Ratings gold for television.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I thought Cain destroying JDS for 5 rounds was a big upset after JDS was tearing through the heavyweight division and knocked Cain out in a matter of seconds the first time they fought. But then Cain dominated him in the 2nd match. Cain as the champion finished JDS the 3rd fight and now I'm thinking Cain is looking unbeatable and that their first fight was a fluke. JDS was the clear #2 but Cain beat him twice in a row while looking like the clear champ in fight 2 and 3. Then here comes Fabrico Werdum to finish Cain. Personally, I was probably more surprised that Werdum beat Cain than I was that Holm beat Rousey. Though having missed the fights last night, I was still surprised to see Rousey lose and then after watching it, more surprised she lost in that fashion.

Too bad Bones will be coming off suspension and who knows how he'll look. It was to the point where I thought he was unbeatable and I was going to be surprised when someone finally did. He may come back in peak form but I wouldn't be shocked to see him lose in a return either. So, we may never know when his streak would have ended if he loses in his return.

Just the media hype that surrounded her got annoying. She fought some good fights, but when you win 12/15 fights by the same move in one round...come on. Only one fight ever got past the first before tonight. Signal of not good competition. She's good, but it isn't just that she's good as much as everyone else wasn't to her level.

Yeah, the sport is really young for women, and the competition is pretty thin. We just needed another good fighter to come along.

If you look at the men, almost all of them have beenwrestling or something since they were 8 YO. The women are not like that, generally speaking. RR was the exception because her Mom did Judo. This will change going forward, and the women will be more skilled, top to bottom. Give it 10 years.

RR likes Pokemon and DBZ, so she's still okay in my book. haha Rematch could be interesting

Agreed. They will all become more well rounded in time. I've seen Ronda compared to a female Royce Gracie and think that's pretty accurate.

Whew. ....not gonna be hearing from Rousey for a few minutes after that.

Perhaps she can use the time to get a coach to show her how to box.

No amount of training will get Ronda's kickboxing to level of Holly's. Holly has been at it for too long and is too far ahead. Ronda has to find another way to get it to the ground. Work on her double leg maybe?

I think Rousey will come back much better prepared. I don't think she had the conditioning she needed to win that fight once it went more than just a few minutes. You can see she was totally gassed and desperate and she left herself wide open for that kick.

I think she'll be better prepared, but hope Holly is able to win again and think she'll have a very good chance. The more I see of her, the more I respect her. Shes's good fighter and seems like a very humble person.

n_huffhines what do you think of Hall? Every time it seems like he's turned the corner, he ends up losing. He has been a major disappointment. He has all the tools to be very good.

Yeah, gassed or not, HH dominated that fight. I don't doubt she'd be the favorite in the rematch, but it will be very interesting to see what RR comes up with. No matter what she does between now and then, RR will be outclassed on her feet. Her best discipline is judo, which is largely about takedowns. Any time she gets the clinch, she should have a good shot at a takedown. I can't imagine HH will have the same amount of success stymieing her.

I was just saying that he has showed no improvement since TUF, and then he beat the crap out of Mousasi. Like you say, he follows it up with a disappointment. He's only 31, so I won't count him out as a potential title contender, but he totally lacks consistency, and I think it's mental. That is something that can be fixed with more experience (as opposed to a lack of talent).
