Since we're being all philosophical this morning, and I've had my first cup of coffee...
It goes back to God and family IMO.
It's obvious our society/nation has been and is continually trying to minimalize God and His role.
On family, my personal theory (probably controversial to many, but again i said it's a theory ) is that I think it goes back to WW2. The men went off to fight and, thus, left a lot of open jobs, and the women had to go outside the home and work to fill the void. And when the war was over, the trend continued of women working outside the home. And parents thinking "I want my kids to have it better and easier than me". Not necessarily a bad mindset intrinsically. But what/where is the focus?
Anyways, with a larger and larger percentage of women working outside the home, that had two ramifications: who is left at home to raise the kids and teach them and instill them with the important values and such? And so kids had more and more time/influence with outside sources. Second, it put women and men together for large portions of time daily at the workforce. And when you spend more time with someone from the opposite sex than your own spouse, unwanted consequences can come about. And I think marriages suffered because of it. And thus further brokedown the healthy foundation of family.
Then within one generation or so, we saw the rise of feminism. Closely followed by the "sexual revolution" and the "free love" movement. Which further devalued God's plan and values.
Disclaimer: I realize a lot of these views come across as sexist. I hope people don't think that of me. I think women are super important and extremely vital. Extremely. They can do things men can't. And as people and as souls, they are just as important as men. Not less important at all. But I do think we have different roles as a generality. And yes I realize it doesn't fit every situation. And things happen, that make people have to change from the plan/mold that would otherwise be best. I'm speaking in generalities, here. Ha.
And amidst this, too LBJ brought in his social reforms, which would lead to huge harm to the family in minority communities,
Which we are still seeing to this very day, where so so many children are raised by single mothers, and without a full and healthy family unit. And there is an ever-repeating cycle of acceptance of government dependence as the norm.
Anyways, I hope I haven't offended anyone. Like I said it's a theory and you don't have to agree with me. Just putting some thoughts out there. And I hope I explained it well
Enough to make similar sense to others that it does to me.
Anyways. I think I need my second cup of coffee now. Ha
He will argue with you too. Trust me, I know. Got him really fired up after he bashed Tennessee. I went after Northwestern (his alma mater).

There is a lot of truth in this. We aren't as different as a lot of people want to believe. Being in different stages of life has a lot to do with it. Older folks have always cracked on the youth, and the spring chickens always complain about the old fogies.
Look at VN with the "blue hairs" and the "dumb kids."
(See how I tied that back to TN sports?)

I'd never tell anyone who to vote for, but I'd recommend eliminating the candidates next time who share beliefs with those who want to kill us all. Can't be good for the country. I dunno.

volssam - Spot on. I lived through much of what you described beginning in the mid-50s. Which explains the blue hair. lol. LBJ's entitlements helped a lot of people in poverty, but the long term effect was to influence a lot of people to stay in poverty for longer periods. It's the same principles as in the Garden with Adam and Eve with Satan's 'God's lying and you will not die if you take a bite' deal.
This country better get back to God's word while rebuilding the family and America as a leader of the free world or it's all going to tank around us. Islam is Satan's tool.
The thing that scares me is, no matter the number of terrorists you kill, the ideology will live on. They could be living anywhere. Right under your nose.
Pyramids. That is all. I think the whole GOP party is a joke. Most of the Democrats too. The only one I'm interested in is Bernie. He has kept super pacs and big money out of his campaign. I respect him not being a bought candidate.
Be careful what you wish for with him. His socialist policies match that of Greece and you see how well that went. To me it is a disgrace that he has enough support to even still be running. Socialism will ruin this country, as a matter of fact it already is with many of the policies we have in place.
Zhangliao...for myself, I am not against the government helping those who REALLY need it. But as another poster said. They are usually not getting the help they need. The ideas behind social programs are great. The government has proved beyond doubt that they are incapable of ever doing anything without massive amounts of waste and graft. It always turns out to be simple theft by taking.
Since 2000, Sanders has used campaign donations to pay his wife and stepdaughter more than $150,000, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.
His wife Jane OMeara Sanders received $91,020 for consultation and to negotiate the purchase of television and radio ads. Approximately $61,000 of that was pass through money used to pay for the ads, OMeara Sanders told the Bennington Banner. She kept about $30,000 as pay for her services.
Her daughter Carina Driscoll, Sanders stepdaughter, earned $65,002 from the Sanders campaign between 2000 and 2004, records show.
