Most injuries in a season that I can remember. And we still have 4 games to go. At this point I'm just hoping any additional injuries are short-term and won't affect spring/fall camp.

Long look into the S&C program is very important this off season

@Vol_Football: Check out the VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS from Tennessee's 27-24 win vs. South Carolina https://t.co/ZDBilmqDHz

Watch the highlight clip above. At the :40 second mark Phillips is in on a TFL and I remember thinking he looked awkward during the tackle.

Yeah, that definitely looked weird. It's like right when he got to the scrum, he froze and just kind of fell forward with the pile.

Yea he knew it immediately IMO. Now he didn't start walking straight to the lockerroom but to me it did seem he was resigned to the fact he was done

Especially after last week's very questionable target call. This one was cut and dry.

I saw a comparison to other teams and it isn't as bad as it seems. High number but not something outrageous.

Everyone knows Alabama's front 7 is deep, but most don't realize just how deep. They regularly rotate 14. That's crazy deep. LSU rotates 8.

We could have a front 7 in 4-3 formations that is nearly 20 players deep next year.

DE: Barnett/Mixon/Lewis
DT: McKenzie/O'Brien/Vickers
DT: Tuttle/Johnson/Picou
DE: Phillips/Taylor/Butcher

LB: McDowell/Sapp
LB: Kirkland/Bynum
LB: JRM/Bates

Austin Smith will be in there somewhere as well, either as LB or DE. Also add Derrick Brown to the DT lineup if we land him.

Vereen has another year too doesn't he?

I'd say a long look into an overly physical training camp is also on the table.

There are NFL teams who are struggling with injuries. Many experts claim it's a result of limiting contact in training camps and practices as a result of the most recent CBA.

It's a real fine line...it's a collision sport, so one team can simply be "luckier" than another.

Yes! I forgot about him.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that UT will have the best defensive line in all of college football next year. LBs won't be quite as elite in terms of depth, but the starting two in Kirkland and JRM (if he stays) will definitely be among the best in the nation.

We may have equal able bodied front-7 players, but the problem is no-huddle offenses and our inability to get off the field sometimes. Bama probably has more drives defended in fewer snaps and they force punts quicker....

At least that's what I imagine is true.

I will be totally satisfied with our season at 8-4 knowing how close we were to a special year with all the injuries and youth. What would make it more than satisfyingly would be a quality bowl win and a few homerun signees to our class

Well right now we aren't really operating at full strength on the DL. Tuttle and Maggitt are out. Phillips hasn't reached his potential due to injuries. Taylor is redshirting. McKenzie needs a full offseason to develop. And Barnett has been hurt for most of the year and is just now rounding into form (also due to Vereen freeing him up to make plays).

Stripling is going to be a happy dude walking into the DL meeting room and looking at all the talent and depth he has at his disposal next season.

This would really surprise me

Why? He should have been the choice before Shannon and Golden if the administration there weren't such idiots. I've said tnumerous times that the "old u" is dead and they need to accept winning 8-9 games yearly and sending talent to the league. They'll sneek in 10 wins every few years with MC. He has the support of the administration, alumni, boosters and local coaches. He'll do well there. That staff he:s going to put together will be dangerous.

Can we get back to discussing playing backups and pounding NT into oblivion.

Either way we win if backups are ready - amirite

Thank you! How in the world did we get to this!! Anyone who has played sports knows things are said if the heat of competing. If I was a betting man, which I am, he said something in frustration and probably did not intend to have the statement all over VN.

We beat South Carolina which is still a SEC team with good players. This game is always close year after year and this game was a struggle.

We beat Georgia and as someone mentioned earlier Hurd, Kamara and Dobbs were all lined up together celebrating. We lose to probably the best team in the nation right now at their place by 5 pts and had a very good chance to win that game. We now have a very good chance to win out and finish 8 and 4 and get to a decent bowl. I gotta believe these guys understand where this program is headed and can see the improvement that has happened on their watch.

Someone says Hurd is frustrated and the last 30 pages have been about players leaving, transferring etc. I just do not see how things can go to that level over a supposed statement that we have no way of knowing is serious.

Sorry for the rant, its just hard to understand sometimes!

Sounds like wishful thinking from a Florida fan who is seeing his program reap the benefits of bad hires made by Miami.

Miami can still find the right guy and stockpile a bunch of talent from Southern Florida and do some winning in the ACC.

Phillips shoulder injury a result of bad training?...Tuttle's knee?...Maggitt's hip?

Didn't realize turtles was a knee

Maggitt and Phillips perhaps yes. S&C programs are built for more than just getting bigger, faster, stronger. Preparing the body for injury prevention is just as important
