Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

My bro in law. A huge missouri fan just text me. Said today he is ashamed to be a a mizzou fan. I told him I have some Nice orange attire for him.

I still don't know enough about the reality on the ground at Mizzou, but this is a frightening development to me.

It now means that football players can pretty much do whatever they want to initiate any change they want on a college campus (maybe even beyond). And there's not a damn thing anyone can do to stop it.

This makes no sense. They are the only ones not getting paid.

Why does it not make sense?

They just forced a president out. He had to leave because that big fat money was about to stop flowing in.

Next up is liquidizing that checkbook for the players.

This is a new day, my friend.

Just because it happened at Mizzou (in a state that is an outlier to say the least, when it comes to race relations) doesn't mean it's going to happene everywhere all the time.

Obviously the Northwestern players failed when it came to getting paid, so it's not "whatever they want", though anything PC related is probably a fair shot.

Oh my god. What are you not understanding? You were totally debunked about your crime stats by another poster earlier. Rate is the measure of problems. White people are highest on any gross measure because this country is 70% white. RATE is the true measure. A city of a million people with ten murders is significantly safer than a town of 100 with 5 murders. RATE.

I don't give a single F about white on white crime. Who is arguing with you about that? What gets tiresome is black on black crime being blamed on white people. Now, go rest that little brain of yours.

Take a college level math class. Per capita means " for each person; in relation to people take individually." That means one person has a greater chance of doing something.

If whites commit 70 percent of a crime you are more likey to have that done to you by a white person no matter what per capita numbers are. Two separate stats.

Not true. I'm saying that student athletes are students and athletes. They are free to not fulfill the duties required to maintain both titles, but they should not expect to maintain their status as one or the other if they choose to not fulfill those duties.

Yeah. Let's take away their schollies because they are standing up for what they believe is an injustice. That will make us winners!

Wake me up when they get paid (and they should).

Wait til they shut down the theatrical program or journalism school or wherever a scholarship is issued. Can't revoke their scholarship! Didn't do it to the football team! Sets a precedent. Don't like something? Refuse to do what your scholarship requires...they'll cave. :matrix:
Yes because this was only done by football players... Jesus some people are so ignorant to the real world.

These protests might spread to here. They could spread all over. Sometimes these things have a life of their own.

I was 100% against this at first and was all in with the "pull their scholarships" crowd, but thinking after the coaching staff agreed with them and then especially when professors joined in (academic professors and athletic faculty agreeing on anything), I began to believe there had to be more going on here than a couple isolated instances that was being reported.

Ok statistcally one black person is more likely to commit a murder. On the other hand if you are raped, assaulted, molested , robbed it is more likely that a white person did it to you going by statistics. Al

No. If I'm in a room with 100 white people and 100 black people, it would be statistically more likely that a black person in that room is a murderer, rapist, child molester, assaulter, etc. That's how Per capita rates work.

Had the Northwestern ruling worked in those players favor, we would have seen a new day in college athletics.

It didn't. But, guess what, fellas? We've just started a new day in college athletics. 30-something black college football players refusing to play for their university just achieved what years of litigation could not. You don't mess with checkbooks, and those players demonstrated just who exactly has ultimate control of the checkbook at Mizzou. It ain't the administration or the Big Money people. It's the football players.

This is both a unique opportunity and a frightening new reality at the same time.

This will set a new precedent. The old system was just euthanized.

We're now on Day 1 of the New College Athletics.

Inmates have officially took over the asylum.

Quit questioning my level of Christianity. You are confusing my dislike for democratic policies with hate because of your dislike for Catholics

Just as I knew you can't show that one post that doesn't spew hatred. Well done Skin.
Catholicism has nothing to do with it. As I stated earlier the Pope is doing exactly what he should by teaching love. You should follow his lead.

Well, it looks like this won't really get too far down the track as the president has resigned, but this sets an interesting precedent for sure.

The topic of racism is too politically sensitive to garner a great deal of discussion, but what happens when a team stages a protest in response to something less sensitive? Coach hirings and firings, etc. This could get fun!

BTW, I'm not discounting the validity of the MU teams concern nor questioning their right to act as they did. My point is that they were able to effect change. What happens when a team attempts the same for a lesser cause?

Well to start a student hasn't eaten for 8 days.....this is not just a football issue. And that's what happens when you only read headlines.

This makes no sense. They are the only ones not getting paid.

Full Ride scholarship

Access to the best facilities on campus

Professionally developed Health plans included

etc

yeah, they aren't getting paid a dime. They should be able to make money but the school is already paying them.

Yeah I heard that tidbit...he a whole program? Was he on scholarship? Wasn't on Yahoo. :)

And a college President is the key to it all....right? Let me enlighten you a bit, forcing people to think a certain way, never fixes anything. Healing and mind changing begins with love, not phony anger, not hyperbole, not speech codes, not extreme political correctness. None of those things remedies any ill that is still present in a society.

And so the forced integration of our public schools fixed absolutely nothing. Okay. I got it.
