Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

So the president offered to set up a meeting with the hunger strike guy, and he declined.

Hmm... wonder why. If they were interested in an actual dialogue you would think they would, you know, start the dialogue.

Let him starve.... Wonder how long he'll last before he cracks and gives up.?

They don't want compromise

They're end game is all or nothing

I'm not saying I don't believe you but I would like a source in the pres offering a meeting to the student.

I saw a tweet or statement, last night, from the President's office that said he had given them his schedule of free dates and asked them to let him know what date(s) fit their schedule and they had not responded.

Last few paragraphs mention Wolfe's willingness to meet with hunger strike kid and any others.

I would think there would be serious ramifications for Missouri in the SEC if they do not complete the season. And yes that could be something that may have to happen.

I think the SEC should publicly state that the athletic teams at their respective universities are not to be used for any political purposes. Period. End of discussion.

Missouri's football season is over whether there is a boycott or not. It won't bother me one bit if UT wins by a forfeit.

The entire state of Missouri seems to be filled with a bunch of Fools.

But, the university will give in to the demands of the Bolsheviks, and the president will be fired. Will probably name a new black president.

Missouri shouldn't even be in the SEC.

Seriously though, I'm glad they're using peaceful means of protest but I really don't think this is the hill for them to die on. These are petty grievances at best and an affront to history at worst with the Thomas Jefferson crap. I really hope the administration doesn't capitulate.

Of all of the states in the US, I would have never thought of Missouri as being the target of racial strife.

You call liberals loony while you ignore historical facts. That was easy to comprehend. If you honestly believe that today's democrat party is the same as it was pre 1960's you are either ignorant or just willfully turning a blind eye to history to push your BS agenda.

Lol. Bs agenda? Everything I stated was fact. Your nonsense has already been debunked since our last exchange. You are completely clueless on this topic or maybe it's you with a bs agenda. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I'm just not going to sit idly by and let people pass off bs as fact. Kinda like 'white male right extremeist' is this country's biggest terrorist threat.

I predict that Mr Wolfe will keep his job and the African-American players of the football team will play this week against BYU. I really doubt they are that dedicated to the cause. Simply put, the University and the state of Missouri, in general, has far more respect for Mr Wolfe than they do for these student athletes.

The studies ole K-town cited doesn't factor in a variety of factors. A disproportionate population. The fact that the muslim influx is a fairly recent trend. Globally they are the biggest terrorist threat today as they have been over the last 1400 years. The fact that that his stats reference a handful of incidents and don't factor in those who were injured by terrorist attacks.

Seems like the places with the most racial tensions are all places that have been liberal progressive safe havens for 40 plus years

Ferguson ( Suburb of liberal stronghold St. Louis)

St. Louis

Baltimore- no Republican mayor since the late 60's, early 70's

New York

Los Angeles

Miami

Chicago

All big metropolitan areas run forever by Democrats

LOL the yarn spun by Libs when they want to run from their embrace of racism in the not so distant past. LOL

I actually always get a charge out of reading that. And then one day, the parties decided to switch!

I'm refraining from forming any opinion on the football players' abstaining from competition and even the black student league's list of demands due to the fact that I'm not fully aware of the situation or of the reality on the ground there in Columbia, Missouri.

I will, however, say that the graduate student doing the hunger strike in protest has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of in my life. That individual has been watching too many movies. While I'm not fully cognizant of all the nuances of the matter, I'm pretty damn confident that a hunger strike is a pathetic and ridiculous response to whatever real grievances their may be.

Hunger strikes should only be reserved for when you're protesting a government's policies of ethnic cleansing or political imprisonment, or when you're protesting having been kept confined for an inordinate amount of time without charge or due process. Not because of a perceived inhospitable racial climate on a public college campus, as bad as that may be.

Why is this? Are you saying because Republicans have switched with Dems and are now racist? Or is it because the Dems are now the supporters of minorities with all the programs they have put in place to secure their votes?

Which is a strange plot twist. These programs maintain the suppression of the impoverished, a lot of which are made up by minorities. In many cases these programs stifles one's desire to work and create their own greatness which in effect is the American dream. So one could argue not only are the democrats selling steak that is in all actuality a crap sandwich to secure votes. They have even brainwashed their consumer that the other side of the fence is the one holding them down when in reality the opposite is true. But I digress, I come to these boards to get away from everyday political and racial bantering that gets shoved in everyone's face. So I'll bow out and let the rest of you discuss these issues further.

That sounds about like something those knuckleheads would do.

I sometimes like to (sort of) joke with my students out here concerning the historical irony of Berkeley being the birthplace of both the counter-culture/left academia movements and the atomic bomb and nuclear America (and via extension, the Cold War). It's almost paradoxical.

Really is quite staggering to reflect upon sometimes.

"Structural racism"?
You either have no idea what that means or you are using it incorrectly in this case

It just has a nice ring to it?

Keep in mind the person who posted this also accused some people of being racist because they would have rather seen Dormady leading the offense this year. That piece of info is pertinent before you jump into his rabbit hole.
