Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

One of which is threatening to kill himself if he doesn't get his way.

gtfo If he would actually attempt it over THIS, he has serious mental problems and needs help, and football should not be in his pervue at all.

Facts are facts. Look up any statistic you want to regarding domestic terrorism and they say the same thing. Far right extremist groups are by far the biggest terrorist threat in the US.
Cops disagree with you right now. Historically, yes. Today? No.

Hmmm... maybe. You can't justify any wrongdoing by saying someone else is worse. What did Dr King say? An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. I'll roll with that and pray that others will follow suit. We are on the precipice of very dangerous times and the hate mongers on either side of this issue could easily push us over the edge.

I'm assuming this will be moved to the Politics forum on here eventually, but those attempting to shove this under the rug like it's nothing are silly. Go read their student president's posts from the last few days, these don't seem like isolated incidents. It's very concerning and very sad to know that this likely goes on at every school.

So now it goes on it every school? Is that the story we are going to tell now? If they had a fraternity or group at Missouri that exhibited this type of patterned behavior you may have a point. But until then it's isolated incidents. Amazing how some people seem to want to make something be more than it is. And expecting the president to resign over isolated incidents by several students who are currently anonymous is ridiculous.

And to have a say in any operations or faculty hires is also asinine. There are groups that have legitimate gripes but groups like this one ruin it for them.

Then to starve yourself because of it is the dumbest thing I've heard. The kid will either die and give up like a coward cause I don't think a resignation will happen and it shouldn't.

I want a trillion dollars because I was called a white boy in a target parking lot once. I want the ceo of Target to quit, a trillion dollars, a say in the hiring of more white people and the focus of cracker education and tolerance from Ritz to club to wheat thins.

Come on, this kind of minority victimization is eroding society. It's a stunt designed to get something for nothing. The crazy thing is these guys are already getting something for nothing in the form of a free education. How about they use the opportunity to become a civil rights attorney and seek justice pro bono if they're so pure of heart??

Best post in this whole thread asked if they would be so moved if the team was 9-0? Good question.

did you just say that their athletic scholarship equates to them "getting something for nothing"?

I'll do you one better, how about you provide us with some links to prove your above statement. That's your problem you make definitive statements and claim them as 'facts' but provide no back up to support these 'facts'. Truth be told I have yet to see a fact from you. All I've seen is a bunch of divisive, dishonest, bs to push some ridiculous agenda. How about you put up or shut up?

Show me one bombing or mass shooting done by someone supporting the blm movement. We have had several right wing domestic terrorism killings and bombings.

Just a few days ago some idiot tried blowing up Wal-Mart and the people there because they no longer sell the flag of the United States enemy. He was too dumb to make it strong enough thank God.

I'll go with all the dead white cops in the last year or two

I will say this though. I don't disagree with what the blm has asked for from body cams, public hearing records, etc. I do think there is a dangerous implication with some of their protests and some cops have paid a price for the few crazies who took it as a support of violence.

This group at Missouri is jaded, irrational and not acting in a manner that will change any culture. They look foolish in my opinion

Systematic oppression doesn't exist. There's no system that's holding them down. How the hell did they get into Mizzou if the system oppressed them? Blacks have more opportunities for scholarships and grants simply because of their skin color. Could you imagine offering a Caucasian scholarship? Or a whole degree program on Caucasian studies? Or having a Legion of White Students organization on campus?

We have african-american study courses because a lot of famous black people are left out of our history classes. Hell, I never heard a discussion on Malcolm X until an english class in college. Some of the most interesting MLK theories - technological singularity or food insecurity - aren't ever mentioned in history courses.

And yes, post-racism America. This is probably why all young black people are being treated appropriately by police - arrested AND given a trial, and not being shot in the chest 10 times or choked out on a street corner in broad daylight.

Even if you guys disagree with their cause, at least give them props for standing up for what they believe in. These guys aren't beating up their girlfriends or off-duty cops in a club. Vilifying players for wanting THEIR UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT to be an observant and intelligent person is silly.

Lol I didn't disagree necessarily with your point. But it is no surprise that you refuse to address the meat of my post. I guess we know where you stand in terms of being a civil human being.

The president isn't being asked to step down over some other passerby being racist. The president is on film saying that systematic oppression doesn't exist.

That's kinda ****ed up for a high-school educated football coach to say. That's really ****ed up for a president of a major university to say.

He's telling the truth

The systematic oppression is a figment of people's imaginations

The black community inability to see the true problems:

Children being born in single family households at a rate of around 70%

Gang affiliations and killing of black youth by other black youth at a rate of about 4,500 a year, on average

Incarceration rates twice the national average for violent crimes like murder, Rape, robbery, etc
Low graduation rates

None of which is the problem of " white privilege "

Yea that's exaactly what I said he should do Pickens :good!:.. Where in my post did you get that? Clearly you have hundreds of students who feel 's been blowing off their issues. He doesn't HAVE to do anything, my statement still stands. Any D1 football program will suffer tremendously if their immediate response is to yank minority scholarships.

In its their list of demands .... The Black Legion of Collegians. I didn't draw this from your post. It's actually one of their 8 demands.

Didn't ted nugent threaten to kill the president, haven't two repub congressmen been outed as kkk members.

Those would actually have been democrats. Byrd from WV I know for sure. Actually most of the governments in the South during the civil rights movement were democrats. It was actually a Republican president that sugned the emancipation proclamation. Go figure...

Two incidents of the N-word being used does not a racist, hostile campus make.

If it's done on a large scale, like in a very public location directed at a large group of black students who are working on a play, it can give that appearance, if the administration doesn't at least step in and say that this is not the school doesn't condone such racial hatred among its students. By not coming forward and saying "we don't condone this", it gives the appearance that you do condone it, or at least, that you don't don't condone it, which is equivalent to putting in no effort to stop racial hatred. That campus can then become hostile very quickly.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I fail to see how the president being unable to stop people from saying the n-word merits his immediate termination. He probably needs a better approach than what he has been doing, though. His interaction with the protester on video was in poor taste.
