Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

And the revisionist history regarding the 2015 UF football team continues.

I'd love to see the list of 100 active coaches who would have UF in the very postition they are in right now...I'll even get start the list for him.

Urban Meyer
Nick Saban
Bill Snyder
Brian Kelly
Jim Mora
Les Miles
Kevin Sumlin
Jimbo Fisher
James Franklin
Al Golden
Mark Richt oops
Butch Jones oops again

DAJ can fill in the remaining 91 coaches...

Why do you worry so much about our program? Yours that boring?

People on VN are too anxious to be the doomsayers that can say "I told you so" later on.

Is building a program figuring out the right chant or third down song? Is it a smokey gray helmet? What in the program needs to be built? Kentucky, MSU, USCe are programs that need built. This proagram just needs a caretaker. The comment he made was not necessary.

Agreed. Sounds more like he is trying to throw that in to lower expectations and continue using youth and depth as an excuse. Ole Miss was in bad shape and in year 3 they were challenging for the SEC West which is a lot to win than the East and has beaten Saban 2 straight years. It may take that lon to help stay at the top like Ala but no way should it take that long to beat our biggest rivals and win the East.

Stop means coach speak too. Hence the stop. Either way he looks foolish.

So sit there silently. Got it.

How about don't jump over every single word he means when you can figure out what he actually means by using that mushy brain in your head for 5 seconds.

Coach needs to stop saying these bizarre things...It takes as long as it takes. There's no alarm clock set for 6-7 years.

Really? How are people so blind to how bad a spot TN was in from 08-13 and into now?

Jesus Christ. It's like you all froze time in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I think every situation is different. i think coming from our situation when Butch arrived to get us back to what we had in the 90s, sure it might take a total of 6-7 years before we a consistently dominant. Doesn't mean we can't have a wonderful and special season before that. People forget that programs are built over time - as long as we continue forward and see improvement every step of the way I don't see why we should be upset by these comments. It means he's building for the future instead of just the immidiate success. And honostly id rather be a long burning fire then a flash in the pan. If it takes three more years to win a championship and be in the National Championship talk every year I'll take that in a heart beat. Just show me reasons to think between now and then we are headed in that direction...

This 100%. You nailed it. I think this is exactly what Butch is saying. And he's right.

So, you think one full recruiting cycle isn't good enough to turn around a football program that's playing in a lousy division? You may be the one with a mushy brain.

Yeah, I'm sure he's super bored with how Florida is doing this year.

Then why is he trying to fix ours? How much time you spend on Florida's board? He gets real passionate on here. Why the vested interest? Something's lacking at home. :)

Mac stepped in a turd pile.

The base defense has been a nickel because we dont have enough linebackers.

If i said before the season Florida would have double digit wins, people would have wanted the name of my dealer so they could get their hands on the good stuff

Per 247 recruiting website:

2012 UF was #5
2013 UF was #3
2014 UF was #10

Just because you might have had some depth issues doesn't mean you didn't still have talent. UF has players, it's just that you had a Dooley coaching them so they looked worse then they are.

I don't have a problem with what he said if by building a program he means that in order to have the depth of say Alabama, 4 and 5 star players waiting their turn to play....then yeah, that's going to take more than 3 or 4 recruiting classes. We often say Bama doesn't recruit they reload, but forget that in year 4 Saban went 5-3 in the conference (4th Western). They still finished ranked 15th, but they were ranked #1 at the beginning of the season, I'd like to think I'd be okay with that. :)

Cam Sutton
Marquez North
Josh Dobbs
Malik Foreman
Corey Vereen
Jaylen Reeves - Maybin
Dylan Wiseman

LaTroy Lewis
Jason Croom
Kenny Bynum
Danny O'Brien

Will be gone after next season (a couple might leave this year), first group will be seniors, second group will be red shirt seniors. We know the last two classes have been big and that this year's class won't have those numbers so there will be less room to miss. If the current freshman and sophomores can step up when some of these guys leave and Jones can successfully recruit this year and next, we too might be in a position to reload...the next two classes are very important and in order to stay up there with Alabama, UF, etc...in recruiting, he's also got to win some big games next year.

He knows it, we know it, everybody knows it.

There is no reason, considering the way this team is playing, what we bring back/get back/recruit next year, and the fact we play in the SEC weak...I mean East, that we should not win the East and probably the SEC next year. 8 wins sure won't cut it.

Brains obviously aren't your strong suit if you don't get how statements like these and others I referred to make him look foolish. Go ahead and defend. Butch is going to keep you busy.

That just simply isn't true. Spurrier, Saban, Meyer, etc. all had multiple SEC Championship wins and by far had established elite programs by years six and seven. Heck, Gene Chizik won a title in his second year after he inherited a bad team, and Gus Malzahn picked up a team that was in as rough as shape as Tennessee's coach did and he won a title within two years.

Umm...what did my post (which you quoted) have to do with that? I was talking about what Butch did and didn't say in that post.

You can trash him all you want for his coaching mistakes this year. I don't really care. He deserves all the criticism in the world for the games that got thrown away this year.

But at least pick something WORTHWHILE. This is just a waste of energy.
