Riddle me this:

How many traditionally top programs have seen a successful or legendary coach go, and then hit a homerun on the next hire?

Let's set the mark at around 8 wins per season. Timeframe, around the last 20 years

Nebraska lost Osborne, hired a solid Solich, fired him way too prematurely, and has floundered.
FSU seems to have gotten it right from Bowden to Fisher
Florida had Spurrier, then Zook... finally got Urban
Tennessee... nuff said
Bama had a run of failures till Saban
OSU post-Tressell... did they fire the next guy before Urban, or was he just a short-term interim?
Michigan - Carr to Rich Rod to Hoke to Harbaugh.
Oregon - Kelly, and the jury is still out right now on Helfrich
Texas - Mack Brown and the jury is still out on Strong.

Who else do you have here?

LSU lost Saban and picked up Miles. LSU was down for a long time before Saban, so I don't know if they would be considered a "traditional power" at the time Miles was hired.

.......and bama, auburn, Memphis, and a&m

Pass Eff. defense for Ole Miss opponents:
Tn-Martin...doesn't count
Fresno St...117
Alabama...7
Vandy...35
Florida...16
New Mexico State...119
Memphis...102
TAMU...38
Auburn...66
Average ranking: 62.5

Compared to who Dobbs has faced:
Bowling Green...69
Oklahoma...9
Western Carolina...doesn't count
Florida...16
Arkansas...95
Georgia..31
Alabama-7
Kentucky- 76
Avg. Ranking: 43.3

Just something to think about... :hi:

Being a good QB means getting your team down the field and moving the ball. Ever since the series Dobbs took over last season that aspect of our team has improved drastically.

Yards. Dobbs gets them.

Let's not pretend like auburn or Memphis are good on defense. I don't know that I would say a&m is very good, either.

Memphis is #12 according to the cfp rankings. A&m is top 25. I see you didn't have much to say what he did against bama. I'm just using Kelly to prove my point that dobbs isn't a top 2 qb in the sec

I agree with you there but let's don't go crowning him like he's the best qb in the sec

We'd be sitting at 7-1 and looking at SEC championship game and playoffs if our MLB and secondary were up to speed at beginning of the year. Dobbs is fine.

Plenty of guys have better passing numbers than Russell Wilson in the NFL. When it's all said and done there aren't many I would want over him in the clutch. The zone read and mobile QB days have changed the position allot. You can't just look at passer rating and judge best QBs anymore.

Cam Newton is a great example as well. I think he's got the lowest completion percentage in the NFL right now but his legs are helping win games. It's a new day.

He might be.

This is one of the best offenses we've had in a decade. Why not just enjoy it? Who cares if somebody thinks he's the 2nd best?

Kelly is basically Bray with a better defense. That team is either completing 25 yard passes and everything is great, or they can't move the ball an inch. He has excellent receivers too.

Dobbs is a totally different animal. But no less effective. And probably more feared by the defenses he plays.

How did Kelly do against Florida? And you bring up Memphis?? Haha Memphis whooped their butts.

It's crazy how there is more to it than numbers and you refuse to see it

Ok let me guess.... Is it the strong arm? Maybe it's his ability to read a defense pre snap. I know, it's his ability to throw his receivers open and putting the ball where only his receivers can catch it. Don't forget about the touch he puts on his passes too. Realistically I know he's a great leader and the team rally's around him. Oh and he can run. So what am I missing that I refuse to see?

Probably time to find an Ole Miss forum, don't ya think?

Two UGA freshman arrested overnight. Might be the nail in the coffin for Richt. Most people I know from Atlanta who are all huge UGA fans want him gone and think they will get Smart. Go get those recruits Butch.

Ok Let's don't go comparing dobbs to these 2 great qbs. Wilson has proven himself to be a good passer and cam would be great if he actually had a receiver to throw to

That he is a top 2 QB in the SEC, despite his inaccuracies, because he is one of the most dangerous players in the SEC. That is exactly what you're missing.

Tim Tebow was an amazing college QB and couldn't throw worth anything.

People really did discount the playmakers that were around him. Harvin, rainy, and demps were the reasons they moved up and down the field.
