JMO. As painful as those close losses were that occurred this season while Butch still had a lot of support from the university, media and fan base - it all could turn out to be a blessing in disguise over the long term. It forced him to get much more involved in the under performing units such as the receivers and O-line with Debord as the trusted implementer - which put the assistant coaches and players on notice. It forced him to consider the inadequate aspects of his offensive system/play calling. Finally, he had to take a hard look at himself in the mirror when it comes to game plans, adjustments and in-game decisions. Nothing but improvement in all aspects over the past month. From being ridiculed nationally to earning his stripes with the big boys. Great story of redemption. Hope he continues down this path and keeps growing in his role. It will mean great things for the program and fans everywhere.
Good post.
Butch has been excellent the last few weeks. He's changed the narrative from conservative choke artist to rebuilder and master motivator. His kids never stopped coming. Never stopped improving. We look good. Our youth is starting to look a lot less young all of a sudden.
We really are starting to look like an elite team. Wish we could have had an easier start to the season. I would love another opportunity against Florida or Oklahoma right about now.
