So would you all say 8-4 is a successful season? And would going 7-5 be an unsuccessful season?

I wish Wharton had stayed, but not sure we really miss him. Helm and Hendrix would have been a big help, though.

This should be a 10 win football team. Like another poster said, I'll give credit for the team not giving up and imploding like it looked like we were about to. So, if we win out I'll be happy. Just the way we lost makes it unsuccessful if we only reach 7

Finishing 7-5 when we're 3-4 now means we lose to a team we're favored to beat. That would be a setback. A big one.

7-5 is a disappointment no matter which way you spin it. Missouri, Kentucky, and South Carolina may not even make it to be bowl eligible at the end of the year. This team should not lose to any of those teams in Year 3 of Butch's tenure.

Correct but I hope our kids arent thinking this way. They need to feel like these games are ones they need to play their best to win and will get appreciated for doing just that

I've learned in my time as a UT fan to not count any wins before they happen. That said, there's not reason UT shouldn't win the rest of these games. They'll need to keep the edge they have and not buy into these games being any "easier."

Would love to see us get to 8-4, and then get matched up with Penn State or Michigan in a bowl game. Think we would boat race both.

I'd liked to get matched up with a team that the rest of the country thinks is something real special, then let Hurd embarrass them for 3 hours.

Our Defense, without any newcomers, could look like this:

DE: Paul Bain
DE: Paul Bain
DT: Paul Bain
DT: Paul Bain
OLB: Paul Bain
MLB: Paul Bain
OLB: Paul Bain
NB: Paul Bain
CB: Paul Bain
CB: Paul Bain
FS: Paul Bain
SS: Paul Bain

I’d call that defense STACKED.

Im very proud of the team but also disappointed in the way we lost..but I think we are seriously on the brink of greatness. If we had a healthy oline and Maggitt against Alabama I think we would have won. We are just not there yet due to depth and that was evident in the oline Saturday. If you look at the scores against Alabama in the past 3 years we have improved each game. We have shown this year we can win against a good team and we can play with anyone. I think next year is the year we beat the great teams. A 9-4 record is tremendous improvement especially with all the injuries we have had

The way to make 8-4 look even better is to curbstomp our remaining opponents and hang 50 on a few of them as an exclamation mark to the season. That should score us a better bowl and possibly a marquee matchup. Win that and we're ranked preseason to set up Next Year.

I would love to play Penn State in the Outback Bowl!! The defense would eat Hackenburg alive. Would love to boat race a Jimmy Frank team.

Helm, maybe Wharton? Attrition happens at EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL. Bama has a ton of it

The problem is that we don't know how the player would have turned out if they had 4 years in the strength & conditioning program and nutrition program as well as our coaches properly teaching them. I understand CBJ cutting some of the players loose that he doesn't see a fit. Top 10 classes are a must so I agree with you, but sometimes it is good to reevaluate those classes and see how they actually contributed in the long run.

Justin Martin may be gone after next year. He's got first rounder written all over him. He's the prototype athletically for the position. I'm very excited about him moving forward. I think personally had we played him versus Oklahoma and Florida those games would be wins. He's got big play potential. When a team like Bama starts throwing a lot of back shoulder passes that means they aren't confident in the WRs getting open with traditional route tree routes. Our coaches could take a note from them and use our big WRs similar.

I watched Josh Norman last night for the Panthers and that's who I see JMart's game ending up like.
