In 5 games? That's quite optimisic

I see Hurd finishing the season at just over 1000 yds.

Why? Because he will be splitting a whole lot more carries with Kamara and probably Kelly over the next 5 games. I really don't see the coaches putting the whole load on Hurd if they don't have to.

JMO of course.

All I know is, *IF* we play like we did against Bama...

1) We are going 9-4.

2) The hype will be like last year, but even more so.

3) Likely finish around 10th in recruiting (due to smaller class size)

4) Preseason top 15

5) ???

6) Profit

5) Dobbs gets preseason Heisman hype (can argue on whether he deserves it or not. But I bet he gets the hype. Especially if he notches another 300/100 game this year)

Not this season. I dont expect him to play much vs North Texas.

I said it way earlier and stand by it. Go up 14-0 in first 5 or so minutes against N. Texas. Subs play and have Medley kick field goals to break him out of his mental slump. From 50, 40, 30, 20. Doesn't matter. Kick all damn game. Our defense will probably score a couple of TD's, too. Have the offense kneel, just to kick. Great practice game for many players..

Let's play the what if game.

What if both sutton and JRM return for their senior seasons???

Our Defense, without any newcomers, could look like this:

DE: Derek Barnett JR.; LaTroy Lewis SR
DE: Kyle Phillips SO; Corey Vereen SR; Darrell Taylor R-FR
DT: Shy Tuttle SO; Kendal Vickers SR; Quay Picou SO
DT: Khalil McKenzie SO; Danny O’Brien SR; Dimarya Mixon JR
OLB: Jalen Reeves-Maybin SR; Cortez McDowell JR; Elliot Berry JR
MLB: Darrin Kirkland SO; Kenny Bynum SR; Gavin Bryant SO
OLB: Austin Smith SO; Dillon Bates SO; Quart’e Sapp R-FR
NB: Rashaan Gaulden R-SO; Malik Foreman SR
CB: Cam Sutton SR; Emmanuel Moseley JR
CB: Justin Martin JR; Micah Abernathy SO; Darrell Miller R-FR
FS: Evan Berry JR; Stephen Griffin SO
SS: Todd Kelly Jr. JR: Stephen Griffin SO

We need some depth at Safety, but otherwise I’d call that defense STACKED.

Sounds like an awful idea to me.

I'd rather develop the lineman, younger receivers, and running backs than cater to a jacked-up kicker. He's just not right and a clean slate next year may do him wonders. If anything put a different kicker in the game and see what he can do.

I think that's a reasonable assessment

Yes. If Cam leaves, our secondary as a whole is quite thin. We need elite talent to come in at Safety for sure, and most likely at CB as well. There is a good chance we are playing a lot of young players in the secondary next season.

If Cam leaves, I'd say there is a good chance that Gaulden comes back at corner rather than nickle, and we leave Foreman at Nickle to alleviate the need to play so much youth.

Any way you look at it, a newcomer will be asked to play a significant role at Safety.

I'm trying to think if there is another position on the team next year where a newcomer will be necessitated to step into a role in the two-deep?? -- and also when the last time we went into an offseason with only one vacant position in the two-deep.

Very unlikely that Sutton stays. Marquill Osborne or Desmond Henderson will help opposite Justin Martin. Still need someone who can generate pass rush opposite of Barnett. Hopefully Vereen or Phillips can be that guy.

Jennings will help in depth at Safety and very possible that he could start. Nigel Warrior could also start as a Freshman.

I think Jennings will start as a Safety if they move him over. He's just an athletic freak, and finds his way up the depth chart wherever they put him.

Which position needs Jennings more next season, safety or WR?

I say play him both ways. Start at safety and rotate at receiver. I think he is that kind of talent. Another offseason in the program and he's the type of player mentally and athletically that could do it.

I think Micah Abernathy will be ready to be a solid CB next year as well.

What seems amazing to me is that next season we may not need a true freshman or JUCO to immediately step into a single role in the two deep on day one.

Consider that this year alone we relied on all these newcomers to be in the two deep from day one:

QB: Dormady
RB: Kamara
WR: Jennings, Williams
OL: Hall, Jones
DL: Phillips, Tuttle, McKenzie
LB: Kirkland, Austin Smith
DB: Martin, Abernathy

If a true freshman/juco wants to play next season nothing is going to be handed to them – they are going to have to take an established player’s position.

The future is bright Tennessee orange folks.

Good question. Could make an argument for either, depending on how certain guys (Ev. Berry, Griffin, Sapp, Preston Williams, Perry) develop and how we close out this recruiting class. Joejuan Williams, Warrior, Davis, and Hardman could all have a direct influence on that decision if they sign here.

Gun to head I'd say safety, but there's a real chance that we miss on Hardman and Davis while landing both Warrior and Williams. If that happens, I think I might leave him at WR.
