Dobbs Cannot Handle The Blitz

Dobbs should be smart enough to see the blitz coming and dump it off short

Dobbs is better than many we have had and will finish in the top 5 of passing catergories and number 1 in most rushing stats for qbs at UT. He is better than many past and present SEC qbs. To say he isn't an SEC qb is just dumb. You can say he isn't an All American or top NFL pick. He is definitely an SEC qb.
That's just my opinion. And if you think you know it all, your the one that's Dumb! If you can't handle others opinions with out be a smarta$$ you need to stay away from message boards!

Have any of you that are saying Dobbs does not go through his progressions good enough actually watched our line block? Coleman Thomas gets pushed back in Dobbs face almost faster than his snaps get back there. Thomas got trucked so much today it was not even funny. Name me a QB that could go through his reads ? Is Dobbs perfect? NO. Is he the reason we lost the games we have this year . NO. O-line and kicker need to be upgraded.

I dont think most people are saying that Dobbs is the reason we lost . He has done more good than bad this season in my opinion ..but I do think he has alot of improving to do in the passing game . When he releases the ball within 3 seconds , he is at his absolute best . When he does not ..the ball is typically off target or he runs . To blame the offensive line is silly . Between them and the shotgun form, he has 3 seconds on virtually every play . He also has a hot read on virtually every play..meaning that if coverage is tight and can dump down . There is no reason at all that the ball should not be gone within 3 ticks

This is why the coaches protected him with single read executables up until UGA and we got behind . This is why it was so hard for him to get the start over Worley . He has shown flashes lately of the read and release QB that he needs to be ( second half TD against Bama ) but the consistency must continue to grow . When he is releasing in under 3 seconds ...everyone will talk about how dominant the O line is

Holds the ball too long at critical times.

I have rarely seen him be able to hold the ball too long because the pocket collapses so fast.

So I disagree

People are assuming that he must be staring down receivers, but if you're at a game live or see the wide field camera, you see that a lot of times there's just no where to throw the ball.

Silly to question our O-line? I really do not understand what people on here are not seeing. Almost every time Dobbs almost immediately has people in his face. You put in QD in he gets crushed. Dobbs does make some bad throws but he made a bunch of good ones. There was a play were Hurd was open on the check down, but if you watch the play Dobbs gets the snap half our line whiffs on their blocks and he is having to scramble for his life but I guess that is his fault as well. Not a Dobbs nuthugger but just calling it like I see it. our O-line (even though they are getting better) still sucks pretty bad. Even the two old geezers said he is getting zero blocking.

Who is an SEC caliber qb to you? He has beat SEC teams and performed well. He led a drive in the 4th that could have won the game. Something no UT has done in awhile. He has been better than almost every other SEC qb this year.

There's a big difference between a drive with 5 min left and 2 min left. Dobbs is getting better but I have no confidence in him to make a play with the game on the line. When he throws the ball I feel the same way as I did when Crompton threw it.

Glad we rolled Dobbs out on the last drive so he wouldn't just stand there and get sacked.

Vols had a great game plan and played as well as they could possibly play. However, this was the biggest mistake they made all day.

Funny how everyone blames Dobbs on the blitz, but they conveniently forget all of the plays he made when there was absolutely nothing downfield, while running for his life, turning dead plays into first downs....Did that on multiple occasions.

The guy is always running for this life. Since the O-Line can't contain the edge, every DC knows to come at him at every play. There is no way this team gets to 8 wins.

I don't believe you he has handled it at times .
And we will get to 8 wins!!!!!Nega

I really think we are a good o-line and d-backfield away from being really good. Also more depth on the D-line. Also Cam who was my favorite last year has mailed it in . He is doing the Jamal Lewis and trying not to get hurt.

Maybe some of you guys might know this. When was the last time we ended a game with a QB fumble? I remember it happening, I just can not picture who it was.

There is no one saying he is all bad all the time. He and the line are inconsistent and it's keeping the team from geting over the hump.

I agree. This was by far the best game plan and play calling by Butch and his staff since they've been here. The only thing I disagree with on the play calling was, taking shots on long field goals instead of going for it. Medley right now is really struggling kicking field goals.

So many necessary parts to negating a blitz. Beyond the obvious blocking assignments, receivers have to recognize where the blitz is coming from and change their routes accordingly.

Youth and lack of continuity among the receiving corps this year also means that the staff probably can't change those blitz read routes during the week, so defenses know from video where receivers are supposed to go on blitz reads. That's what allows them to jump routes.

You can bet Dobbs knows that, so when he gets blitzed, he needs to first read if his primary receiver saw the blitz, if he changed his route correctly, and then read if the DB is in position to jump it. While dodging rushers. And doing the same with each receiver in his progression.

Dobbs can only be as quick as whoever his receivers are on a given play are trustworthy. Tough to build that kind of trust with so many injuries and so many first-timers, and this far into the season so that every defense has a solid book on you.

Excuses? Sure--and darn valid ones!

Debord's is trying to turn Dobbs into a drop back passer and it's not working. Everytime when Dobbs drops back, he starts to think too much and by the time he realizes it; the play is blown.

Disagree! Our lineman really not great at picking up blitz. Dobbs needed to roll out more but if you have time anybody can sit in pocket and throw. I would liked to see more tightend dumps and slants in middle.
