The trailer was awesome but is it just me or does the movie (based on the trailers) seem overly "heavy" and serious? I just hope Abrams doesn't forget that these movies are also supposed to be fun and adventurous. If the movie doesn't capture that, then Abrams will have missed the mark on what makes Star Wars...Star Wars.
Exactly.
There's some that believe that he will be dark. I think that he will be in exile and won't be seen until near the end.
I could see that. Would definitely ramp up excitement for the next film, not that it would be needed. They've shown him with R2 so when he shows up, I'm guessing Luke will be close. What's kinda thrown me is the new Death Star on the poster.
Wasn't Empire heavy and Serious? It's what made it the best....IMO
NO NO NO. No more ****ing Ewoks. no more JarJar. These play better darker, more serious SciFi. originally about Anakins redemption, and now hopefully about Luke's progeny perhaps the twins.
I think the Star Wars crowd is ready for Star Wars...not George Lucas' kidstime.

Yes but even Empire had "light" moments and humor.
Han - "Laugh it up fuzzball"
Yoda testing Luke's patience on Dagobah
C3P0 and R2D2's banter - "Well at least you're still in one piece. Look what happened to me!"
C3P0 - "I'm backwards! Only an overgrown flea-bitten mop head like you would be stupid enough to..."
Han - "Hurry up golden rod or you going to be a permanent resident"
Han - "Chewie take the professor in the back and plug him into the hyper drive."
Folks this is Star Wars, not Shakespeare's "King Lear." Don't forget these movies were originally made to be Space Opera's that appealed to younger audiences as well as older ones. I'm fine with the new trilogy being more on the "Empire" side of being dark but I wouldn't want Abrams or any director to go any further than that with this property.

I don't think I've been this pumped for Star Wars since around ROTJ time period when I was just a kid and lived and breathed all things SW. Like most everyone, the prequels were a huge letdown so whatever excitement I had before they were released didn't last.
With this new movie, however, I feel real excitement. I just clicked on this topic here to see if the trailer had been posted. I decided to read what everyone had to say about it and am stunned about the potential storyline about Luke being the "bad guy" in this one. That has to be how this movie will go. Makes perfect sense. I almost wish I didn't know that now so I would've been completely floored when I saw the movie. Now I have to try to resist sharing this theory with everyone before the movie comes out. What a great twist to the story if true.
Most of the examples you used don't really validate your point, but I will agree on the Yoda testing Luke's patience part. That will always be funny, no matter how man times you watch it.
My favorite part was Yoda repeatedly hitting R2 with his cane, then when R2 retracts his arm Yoda uses his cane to close R2's little door lol. I remember laughing out loud at that point.
It was a complete and utter travesty that 3PO and R2 were in the prequels. That alone caused so many continuity problems in the transition back to the original trilogy.
I didn't mind them being in it as much as Anakin building C3PO and R2 becoming his personal astro-mech. They kinda explained it by wiping 3PO's memory but left R2 in tact.
Thankfully they didn't go with the planned kid Han on Kyssshak being raised by Chewbacca.
