I took Gross Anatomy, but I don't need to have done that to know that the hip of a large man is not that low. And from the side going at the knee (the obvious target) is more dangerous than from behind.

I remember watching this play like 4x over, and I'm pretty sure it was clipping.
It is at 1:56:00, with slow motion available around 1:56:30. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked like a hold, then clipping.

No, you're pretty much the only one here who doesn't know "the intent". It's pretty clear to the rest of us. He was holding, still got beat, and dove at The back of Shy's knee, nowhere near the play.

I doubt he was trying to hurt Tuttle. But he definitely meant to take him down.

Having watched one bama defensive player hold Tony Robinson up while another hit his knees, I fear that Dobbs will be a target for the same kind of treatment.

I don't think so, he knew where the play was going and could see it unless he was blind. Total cheap shot and should be looked at very carefully. IMHO he intended to injure. He pulled back from where he was holding him (also not called), and then dove straight at the knee. I had a guy in high school do the same thing to my ankle, dove right into it away from the play and from the side, and put me out for the season. I have no tolerance for dirty players who try to injure people.

I don't think the hit was illegal but it was unwarranted for sure .. I am praying for Shy to get back to full strength because I love to see the talented DTs get their due. Now, those complaining about the hit itself, if you think he was trying to hurt Tuttle then was the intent the same with this hit at 1:30 seconds into the video?

It was definitely illegal and a picture of a clip. Should have been flagged.

Uh, do what? The same can't be said about that, you call that a tackle, what was done to Tuttle is called Clipping.
Clipping - A blocker contacting a non-ballcarrying opponent from behind and at or below the waist. It has been illegal in the NCAA since 1916, and for reasons such as this.

Good grief. Are you really comparing a pass being broken up in the flats to that punk lineman at UGA who held Tuttle's jersey then dove at his legs? Just when I thought Bama fans had the dumbest fanbase in sports, you deliver this jewel.

The SEC should do that and it should be standard for flagrant cheap shots or clips and other cheap shots that are done away from the play.

This would qualify in both respects IMO.

Dude. He was holding his shirt at the shoulder and then pulled him off balance before diving at the back of his leg.

It WAS a clip by any definition... and a hold. It was also unnecessary roughness because it was away from the play.

This was a cheap shot plain and simple. Richt should apologize to Tuttle and UT and suspend the player for at least a game. If he won't do it because it is the right thing to do then he should do it to prevent retaliation. Guys who live in constant fear of injuries like that tend to punish cheap shot artists on the field as a preventive measure.

Firstly, this sucks big time. Tuttle was playing very well this season. Of course its just our luck though, just before what could be the biggest game of the season we lose an impact player.

Lastly, I see TDawg trying to justify the hit on Tuttle. Why am I not surprised? A Georgia homer doesnt want to admit one of his teams players made a dirty hit. The guy should be suspended for that. The fact that he cannot clearly see a clip is just insane.
