Fingers, what was going on in practice this week?

I thought I'd go directly to the VN guru. I've seen mixed messages about practice this week. I've heard Butch wasn't miked up, players malingering and surly. I've heard the exact opposite too.

What happened in practice this week? Do we still have a team that wants to compete at the top of the SEC?

With all the turmoil, innuendo, and heartache of these losses, the team just needs to come out and play relaxed and play some football against GA. There is nothing to lose.

I didn't notice anything particularly odd today aside from the fact that Butch wasn't on the microphone and was quieter than usual, and he spent virtually every second working with the wideouts.

New It was quieter than usual because Butch wasn't on the mic like he usually was. I watched and filmed what we could and didn't see players arguing back with coaches.

We only had three periods of viewing. Again, was quiet, but didn't see any arguing or anything.

We all watched different areas of the practice field and it was quiet and the vibe felt a little different, but I certainly saw no mouthing to coaches by players in any drill I watched and that was the DB's, RB's, punt work, and a little DL.

Sounds to me like everybody is just down and out. Hopefully they can get it together by Saturday.

Did Butch abandon the microphone for just one practice, or has he been unplugged all week? If he is no longer using it, I see that as very significant in terms of what went on behind closed doors in the aftermath of the Crowder rumors coming to light.

In fairness, when you have an o line that cant hold their blocks for more than 2 seconds and dbs playing press coverage that makes it difficult for any receiver to get open that quick. Have to have skilled/smart guys up front. I really think next year you will see a huge difference in the line. Not signing an O lineman any year will rear its head for years to come. It all starts of front as if you don't have guys that can block for these 4 and 5 stars you wont have time to get them the ball in space, where they are lethal.

"Next year" once again. This OL won't progress at all as long as Mahoney is in charge.

If he's working with the WR one on one why would he need to be miked up??

Maybe this team and staff have come together and put a chip on their shoulder. They want to get things done and they don't need any distractions.

Is that good or bad? I'm not sure, although it's not humanly possible to be a worse WR coach than Zach Azzani, so maybe that's a plus.

General question here... Being into the season and with practices probably following the same schedule each week, is there an actual chance for any players not yet in the 2-3 deep to prove themselves to the staff? It seems that on Sunday/Monday the depth chart is already out for the next game, so it would seem that if you are not on the radar coming out of fall camp, you might not get a look.
