Sad news for all you vol guys that live in central Florida. Rumor has it you will be losing one of your businesses to Seattle. LG is re-locating his law firm to Seatlle. With the minimum wage increases there LG see's a great opportunity to increase his revenue.

Of course they can afford to give them a raise but why should they? Every employee at Wal-Mart can be replaced by a teenager. Employees who perform well are recognized with various cash incentives as is common place in most companies.
If you don't like your salary at Wal-mart you probably should have made better decisions in your life. It isn't the corporations responsibility to try and make up for your shortcomings.

But what Walmart is only open from 3:00-11 PM (the hours teens can work after school). Who operates the store for 1st and 3rd shifts? Who manages departments?
Just because someone works for Walmart doesn't mean they've made poor decisions in life, they're the largest private employer in the country.
It isn't the responsibility of the corporation to make up for a person's shortcomings, but without the labor of all of their employees, where is Walmart? Don't their employees buy from Walmart? Wouldn't paying employees a little better mean more sales for Walmart?
Since it isn't a zero-sum game, that thought process should lead to greater prosperity for Walmart and its employees.
Also, the more Walmart helps its employees, the less those people have to rely on government help, which costs taxpayers money.

2 things..
Labor..the most basic and menial skill humans can offer for compensation
Secondly, where would Wally world be without China? No cheap goods from China and other turd worlds means higher prices which means higher wages. They work at a store that sells cheap garbage, why should their wages reflect anything differently?
And lastly (I know 2 things..) I don't see working at a job like Wal Mart as being a goal for most people. Some folks CAN start there and work their way up to a great paying job, but the majority of folks don't strike me as being that ambitious. Of course they want the pay of a skilled and ambitious person, but they don't want the responsibility and work involved.
I havent stepped foot in a Wal Mart in almost 20 years so maybe things have changed, I don't know.
At least they pay a 3% dividend.Labor encompasses so much more than that, but even if it didn't, how well would a Walmart operate without the labor of its employees and the items that they purchase? We could always automate, but that'd likely put the largest private workforce in the US in the unemployment line, collecting government subsidies, further enraging those who oppose both higher wages and government handouts.
It feels like a lose-lose situation:
"Workers for the largest private employer in the U.S. should get paid more, considering the incredible amount of wealth the company has collected with the help of their employees/customers."
"No, they're lazy and/or unambitious and don't deserve higher pay."
"Well, they may need to apply for government assistance because they're not all teenagers who live at home. Some have families to feed and bills to pay."

The minimum wage job is not a long term career choice.. Its early level low skill work..
that seems to be lost these days,I guess when you get a job frying burgers your suppose to be able to retire from it
what i don't get,is how the people getting the minimum wage increase,think they are getting ahead,all it is going to do is drive up prices and the people making more aren't going to be spending money to keep those jobs going
I'm pretty much on a fixed income and i will tell you,that it flat out sucks,every time they raise it,I have less to spend,going to the grocery store is a night mare for me these days and it is going to just get worse
Simple to anyone that is not flying the democrat/progressive banner. It's truly rocket surgery to them, and they ain't rocket surgeons.Indeed. 15 will just be the new 8. And it will screw everyone except some unions over (some are based off percentages over minimum wage). It will be bad for everyone. Simple economics.
The minimum wage was raised to $11 in April. 1,000 restaurant jobs were lost in May.
The "Fight for $15" is great.
