Nope. I said nothing of the sort.
Clearly, CBJ is seen as somewhat of a savior of this program (flipping a terrible roster) and someone who can within the next 2 year get us competing for SEC and national championships.
My point is that if we get blown out by OU, taken with the UF debacle last year, the proverbial writing on the wall would be there for our fanbase that CBJ is much closer to a Richt or Fulmer (once the rest of the SEC caught up) than a Saban, Malzahn, Pete Carroll, Meyer, Bryant, Neyland, etc.
Denying such would be akin to being a UGA fan who can't bring themselves to admit that Richt will never get the job done despite all the tools in the world.
Having said all that, our fanbase should understand more than anyone that firing a Fulmer, despite their faults, doesn't guarantee a brighter future.
Hey Catbone,
The group Sister Hazel has a great song
"Change Your Mind " i like its message.
Also check out Keb' Mo: "Love Yourself "
Never settle for who you are NOW if you're not happy with what you see in the mirror.
If you are happy with who you are, then don't change ...
Just my two cents :salute:
Most reasonable fans would wait for it to actually happen before sweating it out. Get the crappy thoughts out. Judge the coach after the season this year and not after one game regardless. If we blow OU out and then go 6-6, would that mean they were the best coaches of all time because we blew them out. You take them one at a time and then you judge the entire body of work. Wait till year 3 is DONE then decide. That would actually be prudent.
UGA fans have thought the same for awhile yet are shocked and amazed when they **** the bed.
There is no doubt that recruiting will somewhat cover coaching deficiencies. We have seen that in our program as well.
Matzahn went 7-5 last year. I know he won a Natty but don't put him up there with Neyland, Bryant, and I hate to say it but Saban.
Would you prefer I use the adjectives "gameday" or "x's and o's" to further describe what I meant by "coach"?
I figured by compartmentalizing coach, from recruiting and ambassador of our program (I include off the field issues in that too by the way), I implied such. My apologies if I confused some.
I posted that in response to posters saying the OU game would in no way affect their outlook on Jones.
I merely posted a conditional situation (key phrase there), that if true, would certainly change my thoughts about CBJ and should also breed healthy skepticism from reasonable fans.
As I also posted, I don't expect the conditional situation to come to fruition. I have stated that plainly.
No "sweating it" or angst here. Merely injecting some realism into "this game is irrelevant to CBJ" crowd.
I don't understand the sentiment that this game has no bearing on Jones.
If we get blown out or dominated wire to wire, Jones simply isn't the coach many of us hope he is. The proverbial writing will be on the wall; great recruiter and ambassador of our program but not a good coach.
Not picking on you. I think this is some good discussion but though I hate to say it, Georgia was one play away from playing ND for the NC and I think would've won it in easy fashion. They have been right there and one play could've changed the perception even after all these years.
He was clearly the brains behind the 2010 team. He took Auburn back to the national championship after a bad season in his absence. In an age of so much parity, that's damn impressive.
Every game is relevant. Just believe you have to put them all in the equation when you judge. We may beat Florida and OU and then lay a big egg against say a SC. It is hard to get young kids pumped for every game. I see where you have posted what you were really trying to say and I get it. I have seen great x and o coaches who could not get the talent and I have some x and o questions myself with this staff. However, I want the Jimmies and Joes before the other stuff because your chances are nil if you can't do that.
That the problem. After more than a decade in Athens, sitting on a goldmine of in-state talent, with a down UT and GT, he should have been more than "a play away", once.
Btw, I attend more GT games than UT games.
