Temple sacked Hackenberg (Sackenberg?) on a 2-man rush last night. 10 sacks on the day.

My first thought was Hackenburg must be an a-hole and his line let that guy through.

Haha.

Man, I can't imagine the meltdown on here if our OL came out and crapped the bed against BGSU and looked awful for a second year in a row.

PSU's OL is probably worse than it was last year (and I believe it was actually ranked lower than ours last year).

I know I'm late but I just had to post my thoughts after watching Freaks' videos. Man Jumper has to go. I know his story is a great one and I'm glad he got his chance in sun. But now it's time to win games. There were times out there where he was running around without a clue. And he was extremely hesitant. When you don't have the athletic ability to cover it up, you can't be thinking about your first move. It has to be reactionary. Read and react. Little time for thinking. I'm much more comfortable living with Kirkland's mistakes if I can get his athleticism on the field.

What do you mean "has to go"?...kicked off the team? Extreme reaction. :)

ESPN.com did not have good things to say about Franklin, can't say that I hated that.

What about Washington State? That is a bad bad team, and Leach doesn't seem to have any answers. That press conference was just sad.

Randolph played the worst game I've seen from him in .... Maybe ever. With that said, I think Willie being out may have a had an impact on the secondary (DUH) lol. Abernathy will be a good one but I hope like hell Martin is ready next week. I still don't understand why we played so much press coverage.

Cam is every bit the player Hargreaves is. No question. It's a joy watching him out there on Saturdays.
P.S. - his cousin, Boosie Bad Azz, had a nice IG post about him. Lol.

Would've liked to see more Weatherd. That guy is a head hunter. I wish we had more time to develop him into a true OLB. He could make some money at the next level. A Ryan Shazier type guy IMO.

We will score. A lot.

The DLine pressure was kinda confusing. I tend to agree with the poster that said we were kinda sand bagging. I hope we see more rotation in the tackles. We've got a nice group that could really wear on an OL.

TL;DR. LOL

Agree on all accounts.

And to think we left another 20 points on the field with Medley's missed FGs, DKJrs sack fumble in the end zone, and Hurd's called back long TD run on JJ's holding penalty.

That's 72 offensive points and then another 7 defensive points... Though I think we added an offensive score right after that... But still.

All without any production from Pig, North, Smith (though he played good with some solid blocks), and Croom.

Franklin is killing this kids draft status. To be an offensive guy Franklin is terrible at offense. Franklin only goes as far as his DC Shoop. He better hope he never loses him

Basically all the things I'm telling myself.

Maybe he'll become a crossfitter like his brother. The future at PSU isn't looking great.

Honest question, if Franklin runs this program further into the ground- does it ever recover?

Herb Hand is getting killed on their message boards as well. PSU has a Blair clone at LT. He's a high 4-star JUCO guy who is awful.

James Franklin would NEVER lose an opener to Temple! Clay Travis told me so!

Man, I thought losing the streak to Kentucky was bad since we hadn't lost to them since before I was born. Then I imagine what it's like to be a Penn State fan, who until yesterday hadn't lost to Temple until before my PARENTS were born.

Ouch.

Just watched the defense video and here's what stood out to me:

As others have noted, Jumper struggled. A few of their big runs were on plays where he just couldn't beat a block or get by a blocker.

Randolph and JRM both missed some tackles. Worst games I've seen from those two, though JRM had a better game than Randolph overall.

Vickers did not get much of a push and even got shoved around at times. His pad level wasn't great. I thought Williams, Tuttle, and (what little we saw of) Mckenzie did a better job of holding their ground and taking on double teams.

It looked like or DEs were instructed to make a beeline for the RB against the zone read. I'm not sure if we were supposed to have another man watching the QB on those plays or if the staff just decided to let them have whatever yards their QB could get on those plays for the most part.

Owen Williams was in backfield all day. Johnsons quick release is only reason you didn't see multiple sacks for him

Seriously though 58 and 50 had great games after I watched a replay.

And when Maggitt gets angry, lol, he throws fools around and has an extra gear like few others. He pressured the QB on one play after he tossed the LT down like he was a water boy.

Hypothetical here.

Would we have beaten that Bowling Green team last year in the opener with Worley at QB?

I don't know.

For starters I'd say you take away Dobbs touchdown run and maybe another score because one scoring drive Dobbs converted 3 third downs on keepers.

45-30 at worst?

I don't know.

I think it would have been a very close game. Probably down to the last possession like Troy in 2012.

Speaking of 2012, that BGSU team would have piled up 1,000 yards and Johnson would have thrown for 800 against Sal's defense.

Watching this rep tells me we can handle Mixon and Perine at least for a majority of the game. Maggitt is a man...

@TheJoeMarino: Heck of a rep from Tennessee EP Curt Maggitt. Fights pressure with pressure, great hand technique, sheds an... https://t.co/PvKlJ7AB6B

@TheJoeMarino: #Vols Film: Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara have a chance to be one of the nation's best running back duos. They compliment each other perfectly

@TheJoeMarino: #Vols Film: True soph. TE Ethan Wolf is a stud in the making. 6'6",245 pounds & started 11 games as true freshman. Natural receiving skills.
