Butch does a great job at promoting the program and you may be right that he's the best in that regard. But he hasn't won ish to this point and that's what he's here to do. Phil won 75% of his games and a national title and was inducted into the HOF for his work. I've been watching Tennessee football for much longer than you've been alive....trust me, Phil ran the program pretty damn good, and much better than Butch until further notice.

There is a difference in team and program . Fulmer was a great coach but he wasn't very good at promoting Tennessee

Apparently youre confused. Just to let you know, winning is the best form of promotion.

You should really quit this argument. YOU WILL LOSE!

Winning is great but it's not everything that goes into promoting a program .

Butch is all about the city of Knoxville , the former players and the fans

I never saw that out of fulmer

If Bray would have played here under CBJ....................or Cutcliff, young man has talent.

That would have been good for him. Either he would havematured or been gone. Neither would have tolerated am QB who wouldn't be a positive leader.

While Dools sure had his issues, he needed Bray and Bray knew it. Bad mix.

I dont think you can run a program better than Butch has but the results have yet to come.....but I think they will.

People criticize Bray a lot, but I always felt he was one of the few actually trying during the Dooley era, at least up til the end when the team finally got fed up as a whole.

Also think it's pretty cool we send stuff like this to past players.

People criticize him because he had all the talent in the world and zero drive. One of the most frustrating players in the past decade.

Bray was a lot of positive things.

"One of the few trying" was not one of them.

Tennessee would have won a few games with Tyler Bray as QB if Derek Dooley could have put a defense on the field. Our offense, under Chaney, was very talented. Unfortunately, scoring 45 pts per game doesn't work when your defense is giving up 50.

Whole lot more to being a great QB than just being able to throw it. Tyler proved that in the 2011 Kentucky game and the 2012 Vandy game (I could name others, but those 2 come quickest to mind). That being said, I agree that an excellent, demanding, strong-willed OC like Coach Cut might've been able to straighten Bray out and channel all that arm talent into a guy who could lead a team and actually win games.

I see what you're saying and i agree. The guy had a cannon for an arm and a defense as porous as a sponge in 2012. In his defense Doofus did pull him in that Vandy game and wouldn't let him throw it from his own 40 yard line against Missouri and told him to take a knee after the clock ran down. Dooley was the ultimate confidence killer for any good player.

I wouldn't say he had zero drive as much as I would say he cared more about making himself look good for scouts than he did about winning games for UT and Dooley. That being said, I have a hard time passing much criticism on any players that played under Dooley. It had to be more frustrating to actually play under Dooley than it was for us to watch them.

The hell he wasn't. There was no social media back in those days, when you were in preschool and elementary school, so perhaps you're misunderstanding what "promoting the program" was during Fulmer's tenure.

Tennessee was a national brand under Fulmer. He recruited all over the country. Winning....ALOT....was the best way to promote your program....and it still is, Twitter and Instagram notwithstanding. There's a lot more to running a program than getting Twitter followers, putting up billboards and shooting a couple of Farm Bureau commercials (all of which I love by the way).

If you wanna comment on the job Butch is doing then go ahead. But leave the critique of Fulmer and Majors and Battle, etc to the guys who were old enough to remember and live through it and who weren't still trying to master their multiplication tables.

No one gives Hart the credit for pursuing Dr. Scoggins from MO. He took a lot off the plate from the head coach, which allows him to focus on football. Much more time to recruit, manage, and game time rather administrate most phases of the operation

I'll agree to disagree .

i like butch jones sooooo much more then I ever liked fulmer . Butch just knows how to run a PROGRAM

Yeah all that Fulmer guy did was finish 151-52 all time with a national title and a decade of complete ass kicking. I love Butch as much as the next person but he isn't even close to being able to be compared to Fulmer.

Let's let him actually win some games first.

Exactly. We could put up points, but our defense couldn't stop anyone.

Justyesterday I was actuslly wondering why Bray never comes around, or has much to do with UT

Butch was talking about these on the radio during the call in show. They sent all new Nike gear to all the former Vols in the NFL

You must be a very young fella to say something like this.

No need to knock on Fulmer. If Butch has the same level of success we will be lucky. I think he will.

Fulmer ran a great program. Now, if comparing Butch with Kiffy or Dools, then by all means he knows how to ran a program better than those idiots. We should appreciate what CPF did regardless of where he was at the end of his tenure.

It was a different time. No Twitter no Instagram no snapchat no periscope no Facebook No MySpace. A good portion of Fulmer's time was before the Internet. Our info and promotion was TV, newspapers and a couple magazines. Fulmer promoted TN and the good players well for his time. There were only a few games on TV and if you didn't go to the game the only highlights might be a few seconds on the news or the Phil Fulmer show.

Please just stop while you are behind. Can't even say ahead at this point. If you don't win, then the program is not going to be promoting. If you win, it will promote itself. He is a good marketer and salesman but must win games before you can even consider that he is selling a program. I love CBJ and I hope he surpasses the results of every coach we have ever had. But let's make it a program before we start promoting the program. Even Butch would tell you it is not there yet because to have a successful college football program, you have to JUST WIN BABY.
