I'll answer your question with a story.

Many moons ago before I retired, we had a vehicle run the gate on base. The driver was stopped in short order and found to not only drunker than Cootie Brown, but also an illegal alien. Being it was in a unique jurisdictional area, we called the county sheriffs office out to process the situation.

So the individual was cited for a court date for the DUI as well as being an illegal alien and turned back over to us. Of course we asked the question as to why the person wasn't being taken into custody. Answer given?

"INS won't come out for anything less than 15. We can't justify the cost of holding a person that long."

Imagine that. Saving taxpayer dollars.

So when the federal entity charged with enforcement of federal laws won't enforce them, why would you expect State and local LE to do the same without compensation of any kind? And furthermore, how do those local and State LE agencies get those aliens back across the border when the federal agencies can't and won't help?

I literally have never heard any D, including Obama, bring up this study to justify the status quo.

You act like Obama is behind it but i see no evidence that he's used this for political gain.

You didn't even know about it until now.

That just made your case worse. LE knowingly turns a blind eye to illegal aliens that but harass the hell out of native born American citizens. Seems to me that if the Feds don't want to bother with enforcing something as basic as immigration, then why should local LE be bothered with enforcing their drug laws, also?

And BTW, I'm sure that if the local LE needed to meet a 15 minimum threshold that they could do a few sweeps on a couple of construction job sites and get the numbers they need.

You make it as though catching illegal aliens is as hard as finding unicorns.

Funny thing? I'm about as anti government as you are. So is no great stretch of the imagination to think in the terms I thought of and completely not trust a government "study" like this given the current political climate.

It's also no great stretch of the imagination to think the roadblocks in immigration are not being put there to keep the status quo either.

So answer me this. What's your solution to the illegal alien situation?

Exactly what is my "case?" Other than not falling into your idiocy and hatred of all things law enforcement.

Are you for or against immigration reform and enforcement of the laws on the books? Or are you just arguing with me because you have nothing better to do and want to score a few extra likes by cop bashing?

I'm for the American people not being terrorized and harassed by cops that have no problem making our lives a living hell, yet allow foreigners, counterfeiters, bankers, fraudsters, businesses that break immigration law and politicians skate by with no problems.

Your problem is that you never want to cut the Average Joe a break. You would rather harass that guy for a joint, open container, illegal lane change, busted taillight or late child support than actually go after the people that are destroying the future of this country. Those people NEVER see the justice that most native born Americans see.

A fundamental flaw in your reasoning is that road patrol law enforcement officers are not tasked with, are not trained to, and simply do not investigate the kinds of financial crimes you are talking about. The universe of LEO's that do that is very small.

I'm all for increasing that. But your day to day officer in a service vehicle is charged with catching drunk drivers, responding to domestic violence calls, and just keeping the peace.

But the road patrol officer can pass by a construction site and harass the workers and business owners as much as he does the American citizens that drive on I-40.

One more thing... it doesn't have to be a beat cop that investigates the banksters/fraudsters and what have you. That wasn't really where I was aiming at. The point is that law enforcement in general (whether it be the local cops, state cops, Feds whoever) I've never seen any of these entities go after these white collar guys with as much zeal as they would a guy with a few ounces of reefer, a busted taillight, selling loose cigarettes or performing an illegal lane change.

He already said he doesn't want widespread profiling. Yet says a beat cop should start asking for documentation from a bunch of Latino workers.

Am I wrong in thinking that's profiling?
