Wtf has happened to this world? Gender neutral UT

It's pretty simple. When you look down and see it then you're male. If you don't see it then you're female.

I'm still trying to understand how anything can fall somewhere in between that logic.

Part of the problem.

Not really.

The real shat is that this center exists and that this woman is employed by the university. We constantly here about shortfalls for educational funding, rising costs of higher education, etc. Then we see this garbage, THAT is the shat.

I cannot say it any clearer, this woman has no real skills. She adds ZERO value to the university and quite possibly detracts from the value. She is hired nothingness, the epitome of academic fluff.

Another sign that the further people stray from God the worse this world becomes.

Flame away but it is the truth. The pc crowd is trying their best to make us all to accept anything and everything and never say or do anything to hurt someone's feelings. Because society accepts something, that does not make it right.

As a freshman and sophomore at UTK in 1966/67, I remember the Daily Beacon coming up with this same type of nonsense regarding gender neutral pronouns. It was a miserable failure then and will be a miserable failure now. If they want a gender neutral pronoun, the word "it" comes to mind.

It's funny because every generation says this.

If'n only we could go back to the good ole' days where them blacks were in chains, women were pregnant and in the kitchen, and them q*eers didn't back'sass our arbitrary judgement.

Your view of this country is a special snowflake though, right?

Lighten up Frances.

I'm sure the citizens of Rome thought all the talk about the fall of the empire was just hilarious.

Not so much after it came to pass. :eek:hmy::eek:hmy::eek:hmy::eek:hmy:

I'm okay, Volfanhill.

But I'm about to help some on here out.

See, I said, if you wanted to know my opinion (before making smartass comments), then consult the Ukraine thread.

No one did that. And, instead, just made

So, I'm about to treat said people like I do my college students.

Which is to say, I'm going to treat you like middle school kids because my college students typically have has much difficulty with simple directions as you do.

So, here middle schoolers; I'll copy and paste my post on the matter. For the record, it is what I include below. So, what I include below in quotations is my thoughts on the matter of the OP's post. Let me clarify. What I include in quotes is my post I made and have copied from another thread (since those of you in question were too lazy to go there, yet can post all ******n day on here about stupid **** constantly). So the following is my original response to this issue, even before you knew it was an issue. (And I credit my good friend, Velo Vol, a rational and careful thinker, for bringing this to my attention.) THE FOLLOWING IS MY POST. NOTE HOW IT IS IN QUOTATIONS, LIKE I SAY ABOVE:

"I prefer to speak English.

On a serious note, this sounds like just another crackpot idea from someone in the Diversity office who is most likely a young, new hire wanting to make a splash and have some "great" initiative to further put on her resume. We had *******s like this from time to time in the English department, who would go out of their ways to change accepted praxis and curricula just so they could further pad their CVs, while complicating the **** out of things for the rest of us.

I draw the line here. While some of this is well-meaning, I also ask where does it stop? I'm fine calling someone a she, or a he, or whatever they prefer, as long as they let me know. I'm not, however, (nor should anyone else) going to go out of my way to make sure I have it done straight beforehand. I'm typically not one to whine about "woe is us these days," because the good, ole' days had their own problems, but I will admit that this seems to a be a recent phenomenon in our society, wherein, if you're not fully accommodated by everyone than there can be no equality. That line of thinking is bull****, quite frankly. The world should respect you, but it should not have to accommodate your every need and desire.

Now, one thing I am trying to do is be more cautious with my use of the term "ma'am," particularly out here in California (which is not as liberal wacko as people back home think, though it is certainly more "liberal"). Since the term does carry some negative connotations (largely a contextual issue, but as you've probably notice, people don't care much for context when it comes to social issues), I have tried to back off a bit, although I still find myself using it to address a random female more often than not. I've been trying though to adopt "miss" instead for any random female I need to address.

Now, if they don't like "miss" either, than I'm not quite sure what I'll do. I guess I'll just have to start addressing them, "Hey, you."

Luckily, even "ma'am" hasn't been an issue yet."

THIS CONCLUDES MY POST. This concludes what I originally said. Does everyone understand this?

Did everyone get that?

I don't know how else to direct you. If you want me to keep treating you all like middle school students, which you apparently are, then I will.

Thank you.

And, as always, God bless America.

Regardless if I agree with you or not, you come across as very condecending. You seem to think you are better than everyone else.

I appreciate the concern. But, I'll be fine. I'm a wild ass, but I know what I'm about.

If I was you, I'd be much more concerned about our college students. No, not what professors might do to them, but what a bunch of directionless dumbasses many of them tend to be.

I kid you not. I have to explain things over and over and over to them. Simple things. And half of them still don't get it.

Liberal indoctrination would be the least of my concerns.

The inability to understand simple directions would be my biggest.

I have thought and thought about who or what to blame. And I imagine, like a lot of things, there's probably multiple factors.

But I think it has a lot to do with social media and the constant distractions that the Internet and, well, social media, provide.

We're too distracted constantly by too many things. We can't focus.

We aren't exactly helping things here either.

And I admit I'm guilty.

Actually agree with this and a lot of what you are writing.

Professors and instructors, by and large, hate the swelling of the administration and all of these extra 'centers' to a much greater degree than the outraged public.

Yet, at the end of the day, it rarely touches the profs curricula.

What the @#$% is going on at my alma-mater?

I guess the kids on campus are too young to have read Orwell.

You nailed it. This seems like it's straight out of the newspeak dictionary. Sadly, I thought 1984 was supposed to be a warning but it looks like it's the playbook.

As they should. Anyone that has taken the time to become an expert on a particular subject should be quite annoyed with these hangers on.

The public, parents and students, should be just as outraged. These "centers" are just unnecessary costs that are subsidized by higher education costs.

This will never take. 30,000 students will not abruptly change their entire manner of speech only when on campus. This is just some overly zealous administrator trying to be on the leading edge of political correctness. It will pass in a couple months at most. Everybody chill.

But her salary and everyone's salary associated with this center along with the upkeep for the facility and other expenses will continue on long after this.
