Boston men beat homeless man; cite Trump; Trump shrugs

He should have denounced this. Immediately and unequivocally. He's the one with the dog whistle for the far right on immigration. He has a responsibility to immediately and forcefully say that this is not acceptable.

Jmo.

OK but that doesn't make him responsible for it.

Yet, he never said that.

Keep up the good shrieking.

I said it sounds like that is what he is saying. What is he saying? What is his point about his followers being passionate and wanting America to be great again when the context is homeless bashing?

Please just explain to me what he meant by it. I can give him the benefit of the doubt if I can think of/hear a decent explanation.

He said he hadn't heard the story and if that happened it would be a shame, got back on his hype machine about himself and went on with his day.

People don't like that he called his followers (with the context being homeless-bashers) "very passionate". It sounds like he is excusing them or that he doesn't mind their actions too much. Like somehow beating up the homeless would make America great again.

The highlighted is a stretch.

Dumb of him to say but it's not like he congratulated them or suggested others should do this. It was an off the cuff comment from a guy who makes off the cuff comments all day long.

To suggest he things it's a good thing or thinks others should follow the lead is way over the top.

Simple answer - he meant nothing by it. It's how he operates, stuff just keeps coming out of his mouth but unless he repeats it frequently it's just a passing comment where he didn't think it through.

I swear we get so hung up on parsing every single word a politician says about every single event.

It was a dumb thing to say. Some people will be bothered but move on, some will say that's just Donald being Donald and others (like some here) will be outraged or pretend to be to take a shot at a rival political group.

Dog whistle - LOL; amazing how only the right seems to be using the ole dog whistle...

How desperate have people become to try to destroy trump. This isn't even newsworthy. Justice will be served, trump said it's a shame. The man shouldn't have ever been here in the first place, not that is an excuse to beat a man, but if he hadn't broken the law to come live on the streets of America until the welfare system picked him up then it would have never happened.

He meant that he was happy that a couple of his minions beat the crap out of a homeless suspected illegal alien. And if more would do so this country will be great again.

He's probably already retained council for them.

Here's the most consistent thing about Trump - he brags; he turns everything into how he's doing something great. I bet it's so part of his personality it's a reflex.

He needs to be held accountable, though. We can't just say, "oh that's Trump being Trump", because regardless of intent, he is not squashing this. This is not good leadership.

We can talk about Obama doing the same thing, like many have suggested, but if Trump is the same brand of bad leader, why defend him? Why not move on? Why excuse it because someone else from the other team was ****ty?

Just share the comment that you think is the equivalent of this. Repeating yourself gets us nowhere.

Here's one I think is considerably worse since it was written into a speech.

Biden talking to an AA group and saying the Republicans "want to put y'all back in chains".

That was deliberate and calculated.

Personally I don't think a POTUS (or candidate for the office) needs to be asked or comment on local issues and idiots.

I agree in most case.

They should when a crime is committed and something a candidate said was used as an excuse.

If Trump was going to say anything he should have said the actions of the two men were wrong.

I see no difference in this than I did when blacks were being beat because they were black, no other reason.

I see no difference in this than a gay man being beat because he is gay.

This guy got beat simply because he is Hispanic, no other reason.

Pathetic, imo.

What does holding him accountable mean?

Is it not enough to acknowledge it was a dumb, insensitive comment or must something more be done?

Is there no middle ground between saying it was meaningless and it was as if he beat the man himself and he should be disqualified or arrested?

Accountable for what? He holds no office. Accountability will come at the polls.

That'll do just fine. Most aren't willing to do that much.

Why do you assume I am asking for more and that I won't go for middle ground? I think I started in the middle ground. We seem to agree, and I haven't changed my mind about anything.

Since you were replying to me and I'd already said it was a dumb comment (more than once I believe) it appeared you didn't think that was sufficient.

Yeah, I was talking about people defending him (most ITT) and I didn't mean to imply that you were one defending him.

I mean I guess "it's no big deal" is sort of a defense, but I also agree it's not that big of a deal. Mostly an indication of how much of a loose cannon he is.

He is and I hope as the campaign drags on more people come to the same conclusion.

Huh, I'm not the one calling for his head on a platter, or you talking about the issue of Islamic terrorists, which is no minor issue. Or maybe you are just being willfully ignorant to troll along with LG
