What the dudi is a surprise punt? Coach don't get cute please! Sounds like a disaster but maybe it's propaganda he never plans on using.

Quick kick IMO

Coach Majors used this to flip the field.

Andy Kelly would pooch punt on 3rd down

Edit: it was rarely used, but effective at times. Especially when we were having trouble moving the ball.

Butch punts on 3rd down and Volnation will burn Serta mattresses.

Why in the world would you ever punt on 3rd down? What's the logic behind that?

It flips the field. The defense will not have anyone deep to field the punt and return it so it will roll a long way....maybe you get s 50-60 yard punt with no return. If you have a good defense then it can be a very smart tactic .

I wish Coach Jake would have pooch punted on 1st down last year against Florida. Whatever to keep our offense from going backwards.

Let's put Medley under center and let him throw.

Same thing imo.

Let kickers/punter kick

Let playmakers make plays

I guess that makes sense during certain situations. Seems like it would be cutting the offense short for a chance to move the ball and gaining a first down.

73 Auburn game we were punting on first down

Shug Jordan and Bill Battle in 1973.

"(Coach)Jordan was angry because the Vols had punted on first down throughout the fourth quarter of a 21-0 victory, forcing Auburn's offense to repeatedly contend with a driving rainstorm. He also said Battle refused the pregame handshake.

The next year, Auburn fans taunted the Vols with chants of "Punt."

Back in the day it was a good strategy...back when everything was about field position. Course the single wing was the shiznit. I could see it as a surprise...cause it would be. If Butch did it, the usual suspects on here would hurl their flaming bodies into the server...so I say GO FOR IT. :w00t:

It's probably an underutilized tactic, to be honest. 3rd and 12+ are probably picked up at a clip of what, maybe 5-10%? If your offense is below average, that number is probably even lower. A 3rd down punt can probably net 10-15 more yards of field position on average. The math works out pretty well if your defense is stronger than your offense, especially if you're deep in your own territory. It also has some hidden potential since the defensive backs will typically be completely unprepared for it and occasionally try to make a play on the ball, which is prone to negative returns or turnovers.

A similar approach that most teams take is just to run a really safe play that the defense will usually give up (screen, swing pass, draw) to get a fraction of that yardage back.

Probably not a photoshop. He wore that to his commitment right? Probably in class at his highsshool after or before his commitment.

Lol nvm after looking again definitely shopped
