Von Pearson Update

He just tweeted time is money so all you mind readers interpret that lol.
I say he's done. We will be fine although it's unfortunate for everyone involed

It should be pretty simple to make a decision based on the facts. Facts are black and white.

The facts in this case? Do you KNOW if he did or didn't commit a crime? If you do...talk to the authorities and explain why. If not?...quit throwing the word "facts" around.

My interpretation. He doesn't get drafted if he doesn't play this year. If he's innocent, and case is dismissed after its too late to enroll in classes, then this little fiasco will cost him his football career, and potentially lots of moola

This is where it becomes shameful.

I haven't said much about the whole issue, but it's pretty sad to see the lives messed up on all sides of the issue. The worst part is how the impact the alleged victims family, Von, the school, and every one involved hinges on everybody trying to make it looks pretty and neat to the Feds. Would like to see enough backbone to make the call one way or the other.

Of course, it's easy to take shots at the decision makers from the sidelines. I know that, personally, I'm glad I'm not in their shoes.

Harboring an environment that is conducive to sexual violence or Title IX rights violations is what the school is trying to avoid. This would affect federal funding the institution receives. That is rare and will not happen with this case. However, you cannot piss in the Feds face and tell them it's raining by allowing a student athlete to play that is still under investigation for sexual violence.

Does it suck for Von? 100%. But what is likely occurring is administrators are clamping down on everything (ones that do not care about football) and dotting i's / crossing t's due to the Feds. Butch has no say unless he controls the President, Board, etc.

The school is likely being forced to implement new policies and a bunch of red tape. This is usually what happens --- I have been in the college game about 6 years now.

It should be noted, they aren't just looking at student athlete allegations (Von, etc.) as the Feds investigative student body allegations (so all students -- that is what affects federal funding/Title IX/etc. -- it all works together).

As for Von, I do not know his guilt or innocence, but his innocence likely doesn't matter at the moment.

Lucky for him he has a redshirt available. butch isn't going to do anything until then DA publicly clears him of any future charges.

I honestly wonder if he would rather RS or just go pro? He is already 24 and if he takes a RS this year and plays another year at UT, that puts him at 26 going into the NFL...I'm not saying it couldn't happen. But kids get impatient to get paid sometimes. And it takes valuable years off his potential playing time at the pro level.

Honestly don't know what to make of his reported "time is money" tweet.

Could mean "time to try the pros where there's money to be made," except the soonest he could make that leap would be early next year...so no rush to make the decision now. So...honestly don't know how to interpret it....

Three of four years ago, he was working fast food. His actions caused him to be in this predicament. He has no choice but to be patient and make better decisions.

Maybe he is frustrated with the situation dragging out and saying time is money because the longer it drags out, the less practice time with the team.

"Coffey acknowledged that ongoing investigations can vary in length, but also said that this particular one has gone on an unusual length of time."

I wonder what other student athletes are being charged with serious crimes and not suspended??? That isn't good.

Also, does Von still get any stipends or anything involving his scholarship while suspended? I wonder how he can afford day to day expenses during this time.

Facts are not black and white when it comes to cases like this, and it's very hard to make a decision. What I'm asserting is that the facts (and I do not know them) have probably remained fairly constant for a while now. If that's true, a call should be made one way or another.

Simply from the perspective of effective management, you'd think it would be something you'd try to finalize efficiently

He is probably referring to Big Charles' DUI

I'm not saying bc it's football it should be handled differently. My opinion is that a decision should not be made based on the chilling effect of the Feds coming in to look at everything. They should make the decision based on what is right according to the law and school policy. You get problems when you put people (football or not, investigated or victim) below money. It begins to set poor case precedent in the legal system.

I agree with a lot of your point. But I think it's wrong to defer on decision making just so they can keep bringing in federal funds. They should do what they think is right and stand by it.

Again... Very easy for me to say when it's not my call.

I take his "Time is money tweet" to mean just that. The longer this drags out the more it cost.

As for the other athletes that were not suspended from School I think he is refering to AJ who was allowed to stay in class and graduate.

Face! You have a new face! :)

UT has

Based on that article it would appear both Williams and Pearson were both not going to be allowed to enroll.

The article also mentions the student directory which I googled. I typed in Pearson's full name from his bio and nothing shows up. I did the same for Williams. He is listed as "active".

Seriously. I get it. It's important to make sure the investigation is thorough, but what the hell ever happened to the speedy trial clause of the Sixth Amendment.

Why do you think that the call has not been made and simply not made public?

Without reading through endless pages, I'm assuming bad news and von will not be back. Is that correct?
