'15 GA WR Preston Williams (UT Signee 2/4/15)

I would think Callahan knows what he's talking about. But it seems like the kid should only have to make a high enough score this time to get accepted when combined with his other entry results like his high school grades, etc. That is, if he can qualify now, how can they disqualify him on some unproven assumption that he cheated the second time he took the test?

I agree, but it seems like the NCAA is trying to catch impropriety, not affirm that he is qualified. Don't they have some work to do at UNC or something?

He should merely have to get a qualifying score and that's it. I got a 34 but I'd venture to say that 29-30 is more accurate of where I was in HS. Just being honest.

That's where the confusion comes. You have some saying he has to score within 3 point of his last score to validate that test score. They make it out as if it's not even about a qualifying score anymore it's about validating he could have scored that. If that is the case then hopefully it's not a crazy score he can't duplicate

I have a question for you rules experts. Does a walk-on need to meet the NCAA entrance requirements, and would they be flagged for test score improvement like Preston was? In other words, do the NCAA requirements only relate to scholarship players? If so, then a booster could pay for Preston's education and he could play without a scholarship.

If what I am thinking is true, then the NCAA is messed up worse than I thought.

P.S. I am not volunteering to pay for his education!

A booster cannot pay for his education. Major no-no. A family member however....

Yep, I guess so on the impropriety. By the way, I wonder what the penalty is if he doesn't score close enough to his high score. Someone said "he gone", but I wonder what the exact punishment is. Does anyone know? Maybe sit out one year???? What happened to Henderson last year?
Oh, and yeah, you'd think they'd be so busy at UNC they wouldn't have time for this kind of stuff anymore. Ha ha

Clearly if you're gonna pay a guy to take your ACT, you should find someone to score in a range to qualify you, but not raise eyebrows.

I'm not worried about Pw yet. He has support and is in a WAY BETTER position than joe Henderson.

PW is also much more valuable to vols and Henderson was. Just sayin

Why say this? Makes it sound like UT is willing to risk more to get him qualified or something...or maybe just how I read it?

I think what he means is that the staff/school is more willing to put in effort on their side to make him a success, whereas if he was less valuable, they wouldn't consider burning the time and energy on it and would just let him go. So not being risky, just more willing to fight the battle with him than other players who were lower priority.

PW is a big anchor to the offense the staff recruits for and wants on the field. If there is a way to get things square for PW, they will find it.

Not trying to put words in his mouth, but that's my interpretation

Prediction, Dobbs takes a black sharpie and draws on eyebrows and takes the test for him and scores a 36. PW then returns to the team and we win the national title and the 50 bucks I bet before the season wins me 3000 bucks.

Of course the kid who is the stud playmaker of our recruiting class and was tearing it up in workouts is now in limbo 3 days before practice. Of course he is. Good lord can this garbage ever stop just once.

That was a pretty bad slam on Dobbs' hair problem.
