The truth behind Joc Bruce

:thud:
If it was your child you wouldn't be so cold hearted. It's cool
actually I would. first this is not a child. These are 18-22 year old young men. If they can't handle a little bullying then they don't need to be playing football. Seriously. This is not chess club dude. Football si a violent sport first off all. Second of all IF what you say is true the reason Croom punched the guy might be important. Maybe his mom didn't follow through because she knows her son? or maybe he told her the truth that he brought it on his self.

I mean seriously teammates have fights quite often on football teams and they are usually over once the last punch is thrown. What did he do to piss off Croom so bad that he felt he should fear him from that point on?

Also from what I have read and heard this is totally out of character for Croom. This is a guy that coaches and fans have been on for not being aggressive enough.

Two things:
1: read the whole post. It was a joke. If you can't understand that then you need to delete your Volnation account and go back to lurking.

2: you have no clue what I have no clue about and about what clue I have. You have no clue who I am and therefore have no clue whether or not I have a clue about what I would do if I was Butch Jones. In fact, you have no clue whether or not I actually AM Butch Jones in disguise. Before you mouth off again I suggest you get a clue

Sorry just read the 1st part.
However from seeing your reaction to my post I can tell that you don't handle criticism very well. Being that Butch deals with criticism everyday I can clearly tell that you are not Butch in disguise. I will spend the rest of the night trying to get a clue in hopes that one day my message board ego reaches your level.

I would hope my child wouldn't have acted in a manner that led to him getting dropped. And he certainly would be tough enough to take his ass kicking like a man and not whine about or even kick some ass himself. Only today's wimpy society wants to sue everyone when their gator mouths override their canary asses.

To be fair to the kid if he did get his melon smashed he could have easily got a concussion which creates a whole new world of problems. And if people were ignoring it well, I could see not wanting to "play ball" so to speak.

Your post oozes weakness.

See, when your only tool is a hammer...

There are other ways to not bad down. You can rip him to pieces verbally. You can mock him. You can tell him he has no place on the team. You can do a lot without punching.

And I should clarify: I'm not saying anything about what actually occurred. I'm okay reflecting on the fact that all VN knows is the info presented (he was punched for being disrespectful), and that apparently everybody on here thinks we should solve our problems by punching people. And that people who do so are praiseworthy.

Maybe you should start a 'Be A Star' program on campus. I can't stand when people attempt to force their weakness on others.

Actually according to the law Croom is in the wrong. Let's not romanticize what happened

Yeah let's hide behind the law when it was time for a kid to man up. And who's romaticizing anything? A lot of us that grew up in a world where respect actually meant something. This kid got what he deserved. And you attempting to censor or control this exchange shows what side of the fence you apparently stand on.

Of course, and societies evolve, too. We no longer hang horse thieves, hold people in bondage arbitrarily, or have duels over honor. Or assault people for simply offending us.

Sounds as if you are attempting to force your beliefs on everyone in this thread. To me that's a form of bullying. You probably should find another board that doesn't discuss incidents that allow boys to become men.

A lot of assgumption on display there, where to begin? First, I'd be sorry my decent vocabulary offends you if it weren't for your philosophical allusion to Darwinism, and the unpleasantness with Mexico.

Football is a sport of controlled physical violence governed by rules, similar to laws regarding assault. Follow closely now: If he wished (and unless he first attacked Croom), Bruce could have Croom arrested. According to your logic, however, the mere existence of an orange, Alamo jersey on Croom's back grants him instant immunity. Don't we see enough of the folly of that logic with both active and past players to ponder the....wisdom? Reckon not....

Being the philosopher and all, tell me; since the (guffaw) 'war' with the Spanish, we've fought how many wars in direct defense of this country? Then what were all the other wars about? Does that answer your question?

Yes, you actually did answer a couple of questions with that post in confirmation of my assumptions. First you have no clue what it is to be part of a brotherhood. Regardless of how it went down there will be no charges filed, no civil suit, and Croom will not be punished for one reason and one reason only. Everyone involved in the situation, including Bruce, understand a facet of life that you are incapable of comprehending. Secondly, you confirmed your total disrespect of the good men and women of this country that keep you from having an ied stuffed up your a$$. You want to ask me when we've directly defended this country since the Spanish war as if every fallen American since has been in vain. You disgust me but to answer the question how about Pearl Harbor and the boys we lost or the boys we lost bringing justice to the families that watched there love ones jump to their death or burn alive in the towers. You have no clue what it takes to defend this country and protect your right to be ignorant. I would love for you to take a drive down to Chattanooga and ask a few of those good men those questions and whether or not the brothers they lost were directly defending this country. You are pathetic and have earned my one and only ignore.

After picking a fight with someone bigger and stronger than you, which is stupid in the first place, and getting the tar knocked out of you, going to the police would strip you of all dignity. You fight, then it's over. Bringing the cops into it after losing a fight would be weak.

Doesn't this kind of thing happen all the time in football? In high school we had a few fights among teammates. They weren't full out brawls, but sound similar to this situation. Football is an emotional game, and every now and again it gets out of control.

I wasn't there so I won't pass judgment on either young man.

Joc Bruce was involved in what could be called bullying.Jason Croom hit Joc extremely hard in his jaw reason behind it I dont know. But after that he complained of having headaches and a lot of discomfort. He told his mother about what happened which leads me to believe he was afraid. The coaches knew about this but his mother didn't follow up with them about the attack. The kid was let down by his mother as well as the coaching staff they did not protect him. I understand upperclassmen pick on the new guy but this was more. After this altercation he was late for class several times and was suspended and well deserved. But I do believe Joc being afraid of Croom played a major role in this. The mother and the coaches failed this kid. I didn't make this up I grew up with his mom. This is non bias thread so please don't take it as if I'm throwing anyone under the bus. 100% true info

Its very irresponsible of you to throw around the term "bullied" when you have no idea what provoked Croom to punch him or if Croom even threw the first punch.. Make sure you have all the facts before you label a young man a Bully.....

No one knows what happened but most of you are confident that Bruce "got what he deserved" and idenepedent of that action anyway, that bullying is acceptable.

UT is racist towards local black players. I love it.

Black players from Knoxville... Get to the back of the bus. Black players from Memphis...we've got a seat right up front for you.

What kind of oddly specific racism is Ms. Bruce imagining?

28 pages of this crap.? All this touchy, feely, feelings crap makes me want to puke. Wah, I'm scared, wah I'm being bullied. Tell the kid to go home, grow a sack and come back when he's ready to compete.

I bet DeerPark & LWSVOL get a kick out of reading these type threads. I wish they would tally mark everytime they thought "wtf!' reading this one. I'd be curious to see the total. ☺

There may be some "starism" from the coaches where the 4s and 5s get treated just a little differently.

Just to interject an opinion here. In over 25 states in the U.S. Mutual combat is legal. It is not bullying, harassment, assault or any other charge if both parties engage unforced. In fact in New Jersey cops will monitor a fight as well as Texas and Washington. This is most popularly known for the Phoenix jones fight. ( the guy that dresses like a super hero).

Sooo not saying this happened but if Joc, Steps to croom and let's say assaults him then croom can assault back and vice versa. I know in this sensitive time, and since it was reported bullying by jocs camp this does not appear to be mutual combat..... But kids are full of crap a lot of the time and will say what they need to appear just or right in their actions.

What's sad is you coming on here trying to make it sound like the coaches allow bullying. I wouldn't say I was bullied if I got punched in the mouth for being a smart A and running my mouth. I would call that getting what I deserved. Of course I would be butt hurt and my ego would be bruised and a bruised ego in a locker room wouldn't be fun.

This isn't like Croom was following him and making constant threats. Croom told him Joc smarter off Croom took exception and took action.

Most freshman that had only been on campus a few weeks have respect for the upper class men and honor the traditions. If they don't they need to be gone because thas a clear indication they think they are bigger than all of that and will be a problem going forward.

I don't care what you say, how is hitting him OK? Are you on crack?

Our world has 'evolved' into Rainbows and perverts who have sex changes being called Heroes!

In the days whenever we did 'hang horse thieves' and 'have duels over honor' we didn't have pansies hiding behind fake internet screen names and publicly insulting others!

I say 'More Fists' and I'm willing to sleep a night or two with some free meals behind bars if that's what it takes to bring back the honor and character of our men in this country!!! (oh yea - and spank those kids when they deserve it and then hug them afterwards when you tell them you love them - maybe then they won't stomp on a legendary symbol)

He's a grown man, if he wants to leave after getting punched then so be it. Quit calling it bullying he is not 6 years old. Sounds like Joc needed to man up. And yes I tell my son the same thing, You either stand up to a bully or live with being bullied. I get so tired of this victim mentality. The best way to stop a bully is pop him in the mouth, it's the only way you can get thier respect. I promise if you hit a bully in the mouth then he proceeds to beat the crap out of you he will still have more respect for you than if you run and tell.

Joc seemed a lot tougher when in his video clip he ran over and looked like he was going to T bag the defenseless guy that he hit. Thought then that's not the type of attitude I want representing my school. Hate watching players do that. Like celebrating a big hit after the guy gets a first down on you.
