Justin Martin possibly gone (update: not gone)

But isn't it reasonable to think that he might have a more informed opinion on players being that he is closer to the program than the majority of us?

How far does that information carry and how much does personal prejudice weigh in? We've already seen that JM can be a little cocky and hotheaded. Even when DP relays Nike info, his personal feelings leak in. His OPINION may well end up being right but not because he has any real insight to what's going on inside that young man.

I remember Justin's Mom posting here once about how excited he was to be a Vol.
I wonder if she still reads this board and what she thinks about this current situation.

I haven't noticed him volunteering many opinions... but maybe I haven't been paying close attention.

When he posts he opines...maybe a little...maybe a lot. Usually depending on how ticked he is at the reception of his info on here. :)

I'd trust DeerPark's instincts above my own, or those of most other folks on the boards here. He has a much better view of all the personalities involved, knows the culture better, and has a better feel for what doesn't seem to be fitting.

I don't think he can predict the future infallibly, but I'd put more credence in his guesstimate than most.
Well said and agreed.

As long as we acknowledge that it's a. "guesstimate". :)

We still don't know what Deerpark does...seems to be in admin support in some capacity...not in decision making going by the Nike tea leaves. So if one of us processed forms for the UTAD and then ventured that Hurd would be gone by the end of his sophomore year, does a countdown clock get started? I'll hang up and listen.

I took it not so much as an insight into what's going on inside the young man but more like the kid is on very thin ice in his dealings with the coaches.

No, but what I'm saying his opinion is formulated on more facts and dealings with the program than we are privy to. Just because we guess the same thing doesn't mean we arrived at the conclusion the same way.

Ok...fair enough...anybody could get that out of Butch making a show of signing release papers...as he said personal opinion...nothing deeper or more insightful than that.

So was he given a release and just chose not to take it? Or is that completely false?

Appears (to me) Butch called his bluff and Martin thought about the future a little more than his first reaction. They worked it out.

I just question how deep he is with the coaches...other than processing their travel vouchers. :)

Yeah, that seems to be the case. Basically "You want to leave, here (signs release and throws it down in front of Martin) then leave." Bluff called.

I just don't believe that every single thing that goes on in the locker room and on the practice field should be made public. With the way everyone's feelings are today, players can come on here read about themselves and it could hurt their confidence or change their opinion on a certain coach or player b/c of what some person that has no earthly idea of what is going on says.

At some point being an insider has it's limits. As DP stated, it's "his opinion"...he's guessing like the rest of us.

And some people forget that inside info is only as good as it is up to date. Things change.

JM might be been a hair away from quitting, then decided he should straighten up, and now it's all good (after a bunch of sprints and a good talking to).

Don't shoot DP down (which Butchna is not) if JM is alright now. He even said he'd gladly eat his words.

Damn that sucks. He probably would have started opposite cam. What the freak happened. And if the kid has decided to leave voluntarily, it's just a freaking horrible decision. He can't keep starting over. This was his chance to start in the SEC

Posts like this make me shake my head. Read before posting. He is on the team.

Thanks for the info, Bob. It would seem that a Vol message board would be the perfect place to post information like this.

There probably were more being called out. Im sure there is a large percentage of our team that smokes. A large percentage of almost all CFB smoke regularly. Most prospects at the NFL combine admit to having smoked pot during their interviews because they won't be believed if they deny it regardless.

As long as they're smart enough to pass their drug tests (which basically just means not smoking for a month beforehand) and can avoid the law, who cares?

For what it's worth drug testing can be done on hair which will show positive for a lot longer than a month. Unsure if they do this or only a urine drug screen. Probably do not use hair as would likely have an increase in positive results.

My opinion was formed from what I've seen. I hope I'm wrong on this, but he needs to grow up with a major shift in attitude. Maybe this will be his turning point. If it isn't, it is hard for me to see him here long-term because of what the staff expects and how hard they coach guys.

From what you've seen? I can't remember when he came in but I thought January. So? Workouts with Lawson? Interactions with coaches ...players? Practice with other players? How he walks to class? If you get a gander of him in some or all of these situations and actually overhear coaches talking about it? I'd say you have a legitimate angle but if you're reading body language and guessing on the rest? I have as much of an inside angle here in Little Elm. :hi:
