2016 Election

The presidential field on both sides is pathetic, so those clowns are the best America has. Guess the good people don't want the job. :shakehead:

I think Kasich is the most well rounded candidate and likely the one of the group (both sides) most likely to be able to bring some unity to the divide.

He's probably in too late and Team Huntsman is not very encouraging.

I think he could win convincingly against HC but doubt his ability to get to that point.

I think Kasich will be alright as far as when he has decided to get into the race. He is definitely my favorite candidate thus far and if he could manage to win the nomination, I think he would stand an excellent chance in getting elected.

That GOP primary voters have trouble understanding the need to nominate candidates that can win the general. Kasich could pull the majority of moderate voters which one must do to win. Winning OH in the general is another plus for him.

You mean McCain and Romney were not moderates?

Neither were electable. Both were bad candidates and you know that.

I agree, both were way too moderate.

It just goes to show the nonsense some spew around here about the R party being a bunch of right wing loons. The last two nominees were more Dem than Slick Willy.

Good, maybe septic will chill the **** out now. 60% of registered voters say she's untrustworthy as well.

Not very surprising. She's of little substance & hardly no one can trust her to be honest to the American people.

Agreed. She doesn't have the charisma necessary to be elected. I would also agree she's not trust-worthy. You've gotta be one of the two to have a chance.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Joe Biden enter the race soon after seeing this. Would imagine we'll start to see a push from the base for him, O'Malley or Bernie.

So was W but he was electable.

I would say McCain is a moderate . I have no idea what Romney actually is. He changes his mind on issues so often, no one really knows.

It is not so much of being a moderate or conservative or liberal. It is about selling the nominee to the voters in the general. That is where the GOP primary voters failed miserably during the last two cycles.

That is an interesting comment and I have two follow up questions.

1) Do you think that all the antics of someone like Trump affect the ability of the eventual nominee to win the general, or is it so far from the election that it will all be forgotten by then?

2) McCain lost in large part because Obama was so charismatic, and Romney was a poor choice given his apparent detachment from the problems of average people. What is the right play here for the GOP? An elite, like a Bush? Or an outsider, like a Walker?

Seriously, I don't understand why Cankles at her age just doesn't retire & go enjoy life outside of politics. After all she has at least $60 million to spend on shopping from all the bribes that she's taken over the years.

1. I think Trump is having his moment. It is very early, the majority of people have not gave 2016 any serious thought. Trump will eventually say something so outlandish he will doom himself.

2. I do not agree that is why neither lost. IMO, Walker would be a very strong candidate in the general. If it is Bush vs Clinton, who knows, it would be back to the future. Does America want another Bush or Clinton?

She wants to be listed in the history books as being the first woman president.

Not Gramps, but I'd like to take a stab at this from a Dem perspective on #1. Not sure that I fully believe it, but it's something I've considered:

1.) It sounds nuts, but Trump might actually be helping the other GOP candidates. He makes them look less deficient by comparison. I think Bush and Walker might actually be enjoying this little run The Donald is having. When he inevitably flames out - they sweep in under him. It also explains why guys like Rubio and Graham are attacking him. They need any sort of attention to spark their campaign.

Actually the GOP primary voters nominated the most qualified candidate out of the field in 2012, this includes the Dem candidates also. Yes Romney was horrible on the stump but IMO 2012 is a sad commentary of what our POTUS elections have become, election by photo op and sound bite. No substance.

The pundits have discussed it, but I think even they understate the level of eye rolling amongst the general electorate if its Clinton v. Bush. And its such a dangerous match up for the GOP because of the obvious inevitable comparisons.

I'm not sure that is enough to derail him. But gosh that's just so bland a selection under the circumstances.

Walker would, imo, be the ideal candidate if he weren't so remarkably waaaay far right on some social issues. His announcement speech really surprised me, with its emphasis on social conservatism.

I think that was a huge mistake. He ought to be downplaying that stuff, because it constantly gets the GOP nominee into trouble.

Interesting take. And yes, they do seem level-headed next to Trump.
