Swain says Z gives better fundamental and technique instruction than any coach he's ever seen in college. But, he also says sometimes, especially with receivers' personalities, you gonna let them play their game (i.e. Ever seen glory road?)

The development and performance of Preston Williams will tell us if Z can do both techique and fast and loose.

I've never heard Jayson's program, but, in your opinion, is "let them play their game" code for allowing wide receivers to complete their collegiate careers and still be in need of remedial route running 101 before embarking on their NFL careers? 'tis the most fundamental skill for their position and yet it is embarrassing just how sloppy many of them are in that respect.

No. It means that, when it comes to game time, sometimes it's best to give them a reminder that they need to trust their skills and instincts and try not to think so much it makes them slow. Which has definitely looked like an issue for these guys the last couple of years.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but this just can't go on any longer. Y'all...I am not Coach Zach Azzanni. I have no inside information on Von Pearson. I'm not even bald, guys. I am a football coach, my name starts with a Z, I love the Vols, but that's that's about as far as the similarities go. I probably should have waited until 100 posts to build up some street credibility before I let the cat out of the bag, but I just couldn't live a lie anymore.

And good jaaeerb to sigchig for getting the reference in the avi.

I'm so confused. I read Coach Z's bio. It specifically stated that he had an affinity for Gumby looking characters in hip hop outfits.

Thanks for the clarification. In other words, another way of saying, as Frank Broyles used to put it, "paralysis by analysis."

id like to hear Swain (or someone qualified) speak on the importance of WR in this offense. it could be that our offense is so much more dependent on WR from blocking etc that those guys who used to rely on natural ability are being asked to play and think. resulting in over-analyzation.

Butch and Azzani are WR guys. That's their baby. We need a marquis guy who can do both. Bret Smith, Jason Swain, or Robert Meachem types. BTW, does Meacham have any eligibility left?

I don't listen to his show but I recall someone mentioning before that Swain said something about letting loose sometimes and not playing uptight about making sure they doing every little detail right. Thinking too much. I think it could be geared to a specific guy like Malone because it's evident to me that Pig is a much better player now than when he got here.

He would know more than us but it's just hard for me to judge WR play when the majority of time has been spent with unstable QB situation then a rough OL situation that had our OC afraid to call anything but a screen pass for a while. This year will answer a lot for me.

Exactly. And for younger receivers, it's seemed to be a bit of a problem. We have some physical freaks that don't play up to their size/speed because they seem to play slow. Just my observation. Hopefully it improves this year.
