Jesse Johnson from Vandy247 is telling the 12 Vandy fans on their board that their new RB commit is similar to TJ Yeldon hahaha. Kids offer list was Navy, Air Force, Bowling Green, Nevada and Wyoming lol. TJ was a 5 star back and is 6'2. This guys is 5'10 on a good day. I love it! They keep bringing up his Sparq scores but im not sure i buy it. If he was that much of a freak athlete he would have better offers than BGSU and Wyoming.

Just another case of VU landing that under the radar guy. If one reads the posts on their site, you'll see every recruit they get is an underrated player who's star ranking is way undervalued. It's never the case that maybe the majority are just average to mediocre players and that is why they are a 2/3 stars with offers from only MAC schools. It's really funny, they are losing their minds over that RB commit and if you read their thread on him, you'd question why he didn't bypass college all together and just be a first round pick this past NFL draft.

5' 10" more than 200 lbs, he is a bowling ball. he has good speed but terrible lateral movement and not great vision. not really a guy who flashes off the screen, usually took me a while to find him on the field, not good in a highlight video.

I still don't understand how they think Mason will ever work out. You don't go from 9-4 to barely beating the worst teams in FBS with a good coach.

I agree. Don't think Mason is going to last. However, I will cut him just a tad of slack. Franklin bailed just before signing day, and took the cream with him. Kiffin did much the same thing to us and look at what happened.

I cut Dooley some slack initially for the same reason. Turned out, he set the program back more than I could have ever imagined.

That brings up a few interesting questions:
Is Mason the "Dooley" of Vanderbilt?

If you set the Vanderbilt program back, will anyone really notice? Back is where they were. Couple of years of Franklin has skewed the data.

Doesn't Vandy want the anchor "down"?

I wouldn't be surprised if Williams retains Mason as long as he's AD, provided he doesn't pull off an 0-12 season. I think the school is satisfied with him given that he's clean as a coach, doesn't generate any controversy, and is a Stanford guy, which is a school that Vandy desperately wants to emulate.

Tim Corbin's success is likely enough for the AD to be satisfied at the moment. Stallings will probably coach at Vandy until Williams retires as well.

please be true. I need that level of comedy in my life.

I mean...did Vandy benefit in any way from Franklin's tenure as football coach?

Winning didn't increase attendance much. Didn't increase the size of the fanbase. And ultimately it only brought negative publicity to the university due to the rape trial and other questionable recruits Franklin brought in. Not to mention his stupid remarks to the media every week.

I think Williams and Zeppos are fine with having a bad football team. It's accepted at Vandy--especially if they can point to a championship caliber baseball team filled with rich kids who don't get in trouble.

I can see what you're saying, but Dooley still won five games, and didn't squeak by in all of his wins.

What we didn't understand (or at least I didn't) was how lazy or inept Dooley was when it came to recruiting. I went a long time not being on this board, so I'm sure all that is well documented. I was enlightened by listening to the Ainge show when that was on the air. Dang.. some of those VFL's ripped Dooley a new one, and it was clear, that, unlike me - they were aware of it before he was finally fired.

Just think, if he had won that Vandy game, we might still have him? Or had him a season longer perhaps.

Something unrelated - I never saw the Dooley's (coming from UGA blood) embrace UT in the same manner as the Mannings (coming from OLE MISS blood). Big difference between how Archie and Vince handled having their young 'un wearing orange. Archie was probably more beloved to Ole Miss as Vince was to UGA.
I never felt comfortable with Dooley's linage.

eh, they got two wins in a row over us. that will keep them satisfied for another half century. beyond that, no they really didn't gain any long term benefits. only thing it might do is say to a new coach is that it CAN be done, it is just really difficult and you have to be lucky.

I guess we will see if the AD is committed to football after Mason inevitably falls flat again this season. If he's retained, Vandy fans might as well accept that the school just doesn't give a damn about football.

I think Vandy keeping Mason after year one, with a 3-9 record that was damn near 1-11, is something many, many schools wouldn't have done. You keep a guy like that around too long and he can bury the program. Dooley nearly did it here after the UK loss in 2011, but he at least appeared to be recruiting well.

It was only a matter of time before this thread appeared... You also see the same thing after almost every football game and several basketball games. Refs all across America in every sport seem to have a unified vendetta against Vanderbilt.

"We haven't helped ourselves at the plate, but this ump has handed UVa the game on a silver platter. Not a nice way to decide a championship"

As if every other fan base in America doesn't blame the officials after a loss. At least they have that in common with other teams. That's about it.

From vandymania in response to someone dogging the rb they just got

We just landed us a legit SEC RB. Legit 4.4 power runner. That we haven't had. He is a 4 star at worst. If you cant figure out why his offer list and raking isn't very good then, I'm* sorry for you

What does the last part even mean?

they say he is atleast a 4 star at worst but his offer list is trash lol. I love how they are dogging that fan who is concerned with their recruiting. sensitive bunch.

Man after reading that whole thread they are hyping that kid up way too much and anybody that raises any concerns about his offers or 4.4 40 is automatically labeled a "utee troll". Never mind the fact that very few NFL players can run that fast but if that kid had legitimate 4.4 speed he'd have at least 1 other sec offer
