I don't think so. Snowden's revelations went far and beyond anything we had evidence of. Also, the magnitude of the story helped. Prior revelations were back page stories. People thought they were looking for terrorists and accidentally spying on innocents. Snowden made it clear they purposely collected data on innocents.

Everyone with any sense knew it was going on. It's been going on for decades. They used to monitor the books checked out at public libraries. Stop acting as if you've been sexually violated. No one was peering into your windows watching you in the shower. you act as if it was just like the movie Eagle Eye or something. I think the spying sucks.... No doubt, but Snowden is a POS and pimped out info to foreign countries that aren't covered under the U.S. Constitution...... F*** him and anyone that supports his actions
