The cop had the gun out right after getting out of the car. As usual, the cop escalated the situation to the point that someone lost their life. Murder is murder. But as usual, the cop got away with it.

The cop thought the guy had a gun....would you have had your weapon holstered when pulling up to a perceived threat. I have had cops draw their weapons on me before and I held still making sure not to make a sudden move bc in a high stress situation like that I didn't want to give the cop a reason to shoot.

I'd have had my service weapon in low ready As I approached the guy. You know people are still innocent until proven guilty in this country. Or, do you disagree with that too?

THUGS wear headphones. Thus, the cop is justifiably scared and the shooting is OK.

I would have had my gun drawn but I'm not sure what the protocol is.....Cops deal with probable cause.....innocent until proven guilty is referring to our court system.

The publics safety is more important then the police officers safety. Cop signed up to be in potentially dangerous situations. Until that cop sees a weapon he has no business firing his.

Yes. So he shows up by himself. It takes no less than 3 cops to tell me my tail light is out.

He then gets out of the cruiser and draws his gun on the guy. He has no idea whether this guy has broken any law.

He tells the guy to stop and turn around.

He then gives the guy an order that automatically creates this perceived threat you speak of.

Then he kills him.

Great policing.

He should've been charged and sent to prison.

Shows up by himself? Where did you get that information? There was a second cop with him in the video!
This is from the article with the DA's comments:
Two other officers arrived as the men went into the 7-Eleven. The officers waited outside, not wanting to confront reportedly armed men inside the store, Gill said.

There were three officers present..... They must have thought you were about to pull in he parking lot so they could tell you your tail light is out.

I value both the police officers and the publics safety equally.....this is why u follow commands....his two friends did and are alive to talk about it...he didn't and paid the ultimate price...very sad and disturbing situation.

If you review the video, you'll see that as the officer is parking his cruiser, the victim is walking away.

It's hard for me to tell....I'm going mainly by what the DA stated....it was hard for me to tell anything by the video....if it happened in a different manner than my viewpoint might change.

I stand corrected. There was at least one other cruiser on the scene when the officer pulls up. You can also see an officer flanking the victim while the other one is following him.

As for the officer who did the killing, he was just arriving on the scene.

If we're to believe what the DA is saying, then there are at least two officers on the scene that have a much better understanding of the situation. They have been there since before the guys went into the store. Which means they where also there when they came out. Unless the three guys standing by the truck weren't the ones in question. No where has it been stated that the victim was actually one of the guys suspect of having a weapon, and the officers that knew who the suspects were had not approached the guys standing by the truck. They were supposedly waiting for the suspects to come out of the store.

Why does this officer pull up to a controlled situation with officers already on the scene, fail to first discuss the situation with the officers who have a much better idea of what is going on?

Instead, he pulls up and immediately escalates the situation.

One important detail that is rarely mentioned: NONE OF THE GUYS HAD A WEAPON.

I watched the video again...the other two cops had the other two guys secured...the guy that got shot was facing the action turned quickly and tried walking away....he was not adhering to the cops orders...it looked like the guy had turned around and back pedaling....couldn't really tell more than that from the video....if there was a gun this wouldn't even be a discussion.... It's horrible that it happened

Another question. Why do the police get to decide what audio we get to hear? There may be audio coming across the officer's radio before he gets out of the cruiser that could give a clearer understanding of the situation but they chose to blank it out. The audio portion from when the officer gets out of the car until right before he kills the guy is also not released. Why?

They should not have so much control over such important information. It was said that by using body cameras, the public would be able to verify that the police are conducting themselves properly and within the law. If the police are able to control the what, when, and how concerning the release of these tapes, it defeats the purpose.
