"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

We're quoting books about magic, right?

Sorry, I couldn't resist with the silliness of people quoting the bible as if that proves something...

Romans 14:11-12
11 for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Philippians 2:10-11
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I pray that you have had a change of heart and a change in your beliefs by the time the above events occur.

What you see above is the standard response of those not interested in researching a topic and devoting time, thought and effort into understanding anything about it. This is true not just about God, the Bible, etc. It's about anything. They are intellectually lazy. Very few historians and scholars dispute Jesus' presence on earth due to the evidence. Even Muslims acknowledge Jesus. The Jews and Romans recorded him in secular history. However, he's only in the "books about magic" to some. The only real disputes are about who he is, what he did, etc. Since there is no grave, no body to examine and test for DNA; these scholars and researchers are left with a decision to make even if they feel they can explain the unexplainable with science, conjecture, comparisons, etc. Those are intelligent people who examine, research and deserve respect for at least giving the effort. Or a person can just blow it off, like some on here.

As another example, one can study history and political science to provide his/her best explanation for the thousands of years that the Jews and numerous Arab peoples have spilled blood of each other, just as they do today. Oops, the answer to that also is in the "books about magic". Or the researcher could study Revelation and have a better understanding of how history is unfolding exactly the way John saw it 2000 years ago - but he/she would have to open his/her mind to God and his ways to even have a remote chance of understanding because it was written such that only the believers would get it.

I mean, really, using a quote of Harry Potter as an example. That's about as intelligent as a 10 year old. Seek and you will find. Will pray they they may see his glory and give their souls to the eternal instead of the temporary.

Reading the mocking doesn't make me mad. It just makes me really sad. Vol4 us is right. Josephus the Jewish historian was a strict Jew who did not believe in Jesus as the messiah but recorded what we know historically outside the Bible about the early days of Christianity and Jesus. Think about this. The guys who would have KNEW he was a fraud and did not rise from the dead gave the lives for what they knew to be false. I know people can be brainwashed however, these folks live and saw him die and then spread the gospel like wildfire about the love of Jesus because they got one advantage that we do not give. They saw him and had faith. We have faith without seeing him in the physical. They willing suffered horrible deaths for something they KNEW was fake. Just think about that and then add the historical knowledge that is available if not intellectually lazy and then believe what you want to believe. But, one day, if I am wrong, no big deal. However, those who are mocking, if you are wrong, it's a pretty bad deal and decision.

Jacket, I like what you said about if we are wrong, then no big deal, because no one knows what will happen. Does life go on forever? What hope do we have to live for in this wicked world, if this be the case? You live, be merry, and die...that's it! Nothing afterwards? However, if it's the opposite scenario, and God is real, Jesus is real, and the inspired word of God is real, then the things written in that book are real. Hell is real, and and is reserved for all those who do not obey the commands written in that book. If the believer is on the wrong end of this, no one knows what happens, but if the unbeliever is on the wrong end of this, then God says he/she will receive everlasting, unending torment. Do you really want to take the chance being on the wrong end of the equation here? I know my beliefs and know that, IMO, there is no other option than to obey the Lord and his commandments.

One other thought in the form of question, and anyone can comment as to why they think this is so: why does a book finished almost 2000 years ago and written over a much longer period of time than that still exist and still sell copies to this very day? Can you think of any other book that still sells copies to this day that was finished over 2000 years ago? If not, then why does the Bible still exist?

While I am a believer, I do agree that quoting Bible verses to one who considers the Bible a work of fiction, is largely ineffective and even "silly" as you say.

That is exactly why Christians should explore science and philosophy and reconcile it with their faith.

Science and philosophy make for powerful Christian apologetics I've found.

There are 5 A Song of Fire and Ice books by George R.R. Martin, and the video production is in its fifth season. Not sure if he can finish with books 6 and 7 before production begins on a sixth season for the HBO production. If not, we will probably see a lot of what has been omitted so far in the series.

I can't see the show going backwards. I think they will simply go their own direction for 2-3 more seasons and end it how they want (With input from GRRM).

Well yeah GRRM has already told the show creators the ending so us book readers will be spoiled by the show but that's not bad thing to me. The show has created a story on its own still following the main narrative of the book so its like watching an alternative story but with the same ending. I love it and cant wait till the 6th book comes out.

Well, the series is certainly different from the books - but is interesting. Perhaps those of viewers who like the HBO series will want to read the real story.
