Saw this one the other day. It's another one that I question if it's real. It's certainly bizarre either way.

(VIDEO) Virginia Man Is Harassed While Eating In Hotel Parking Lot | Cop Block

Sitting in the parking lot of his hotel room, late Tuesday night, a Virginia man was approached by an officer of the Richmond Police Department. Roy Williams of Richmond Virginia, a registered security guard for the Commonwealth of Virginia, was eating a cup of oatmeal in his car when the incident occurred. The officer approached Mr Williams’ car, and before identifying himself, he asked if Williams had a room at the hotel.

After Williams positively indicated that he did have a room at the place of business, the officer proceeded to ask further invasive questions before finally demanding Williams identification.

After a few moments of back and forth, Williams finally presented his ID to the officer. Williams asked if the officer had a reason for being stopped, and the officer replied, “I do have a reason, once you get it [the ID] we’ll let you know.

So that's how we do it now? We ask for ID and then see if we have a reason to retain you?

Just like I said... a fishing expedition.

Scumbag cops actually pulled a Grand Vol move at the 5:35 mark ("Sir, I don't make the laws, I just enforce them..."/ "duty bound".

Prepare for your blood to boil unless you are an egg sucking dog.

Ras, the reality is the cops can legally lie to you and there's not a whole lot any one can do about it. The Supreme Court has ruled that the police are not under any lawful duty to protect you. So what are we paying for with our tax dollars again?.....

And just like the video mentioned, you have people among us that ridicule people that exercise their Constitutional rights.

While tear gas is banned on the battlefield by the Chemical Weapons Convention it is allowed to be used by military forces for drills and riot control freely and is not prohibited at all for domestic law enforcement use. Not sure pepper spray even falls under chemical weapons.

Apparently, pepper spray is perfectly legal in Rutherford Co.

And?

How is the cop to know?

My brother had a similiar deal happen. I was driving. We got stopped, the officer saw what was going on we got an escort to the hospital.

That's fine in your instance and the cop did follow protocol.

The problem is, the cop was so rigidly adherent to the written word that a man died because he had to wait for an ambulance.. which took 6 minutes to arrive on scene.

This is an issue with local protocol, not all cops holding the "oh, so you're dying? Let me force you to wait for an ambulance because reasons" sentiment as their SOP.

So, if I understand the "cop defaults to an ambulance in all cases of emergency"... if this cop pulled over a man that had been shot and was bleeding out he'd have to force the man to wait for an ambulance? Or did the cop just simply not believe or care that the man's life was in danger?

"Duty bound"... Just following protocol (not following common sense).

I would argue that he was doing what he thought best once he saw the situation. Turns out he was likely wrong, but the "duty bound" line had absolutely nothing to do with this. Sometimes you raise fair points, but sometimes your hatred has you making stupid comments.

It was just as likely that the guy's life would be saved waiting on the ambulance as trying to load the guy back in the car to make it to the hospital.

The person driving should have had the emergency lights on and when the cop pulled behind them to make a stop.....called 911 to tell them of their emergency so dispatch could inform the officer and they would have gotten a police escort instead of wasting precious time.

In other words: everybody's fault but the cop's.

I don't think it is anyone's fault.....sometimes bad things happen in this world....I think the cop did what he thought was right and the people rushing him to the hospital was under duress. It's a very sad situation but to put blame is ridiculous.

and if he died in the back of the police cruiser, the usual suspects would be criticizing the cop for pretending he was an ambulance driver and that he should leave it to the professionals.

If he died in the back of the police cruiser on the way to the hospital, there isn't a single person in any of the cop threads that would hold it against the officer. As it is, he let his procedures stand in the way of helping somebody that needed to get to the hospital. The guy died. I won't blame the cop, but I will say that he didn't exactly go above and beyond as the officer in the first story.

I'm pretty harsh on cops but I wouldn't at all hold the cop responsible for trying to help.

I pretty strictly adhere to the notion that police officers are legal representatives of the majority rule and are there as public servants. This would have been a public service because, as witnessed, it took 6 minutes for an ambulance to arrive... and then take him to the hospital.

This "RABBLE RABBLE THEY HATE ALL COPS" crap has to stop. I personally don't hate all cops and I don't get the impression that most "usual suspects" hate all cops. I am just suspicious of them as they have (I know it, they know it) unquestionable authority and power over anyone they come across.

Given this nation was founded by people who balked at unquestionable authority, I find it isn't too arbitrary to also question authority and the status quo.

This is another downside to a police force that has responded too far on the other spectrum against corrupt officers with a cold approach to adherence to policy.

You would think this clearly as a 20-something year old woman whose SO was having a severe asthma attack?

"Darling, I know you can't breathe and are dying but let me go over this checklist of things to do so we don't get stopped and held for 5-6 minutes by a cop who can't see you're dying."

Yeah, common sense and what not.

It was an asthma attack so the EMT's would have been able to stabilize him on the scene.....It's not something that would have had to wait for the hospital for them to deal with. So basically it took six minutes for help to arrive or five minutes to drive him to the hospital plus whatever time it took to load him back in the car and whatever time it took to get him inside the hospital for help.
