David Letterman: A Mean Guy

Damnit, Gramps. Listen to Tim O'Briens rendition of Farewell Angelina and tell me it ain't good.

My phone went haywire and directed me to the rock/metal thread in the music forum. Freak, please stop messing with my browser.

I Googled it and listened to it on YouTube. He does a good job on it.

There are a lot of Dylan songs I appreciate a lot more when done by other artists. There are many bluegrass groups who cover his songs. Hell, sometimes, I like just reading the lyrics more than hearing someone singing them.

Speaking of bluegrass, anyone else here like Tony Rice? He's a beast on guitar.

By far my favorite Neil Young recordings are from Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust. Plus the studio version of Like a Hurricane.

Of course. Tony's looked like skeletor for years now.

Hmm, I wonder if it's drug related. I had a story retold to me from someone in the bluegrass industry that some of the bigger acts were heavy into pot and cocaine. This person met Doc Watson after a gig and Doc had a huge pile of coke he started snorting like it was a completely normal thing to do. Bunch of wild guys.

A lot of people think his dysphonia is cocaine related. Bluegrass has been tight with the folk community since the 60s. Maybe its all Jerry Garcia's fault..

I got more nerve than Dick Tracy.
I take it that you don't know the song. It starts out...."You've got a lot of nerve, to say you are my friend. When I was down, you just stood there grinning.

I wish that for just one time that you could stand inside my shoes. Then you'd know what a drag it is to see you."

No, I have never heard it that I can recall.

I am sure that you can find it on youtube. It was an early Dylan song, maybe mid-60's. It's worth a listen. It is THE classic EFF YOU song. Dink would love it.

No one gives a flip about Neil Young. He's one of those guys that people "like" so they can seem cool. That being said, Fallon is really good at doing impressions. His audition for SNL is amazing.

What an oddly angry post. I play a lot of music, and I see the merit he's brought to the table for the past 4 decades. Live Rust is one of the best live records of all time (right up there with Lou Reed's Rock n Roll Animal and Bowie's Diamond Dogs), Harvest is one of the best folk/rock works of the 70's, and On The Beach is my favorite road trip record ever. I don't go around saying he's cool for approval from my peers, because not too many people under the age of 50 like him all that much.

He's not supposed to be an incredible singer, but he IS a terrific songwriter, producer, and a hell of a guitar player.

One of my walls is fully decked out with reprinted vinyl casings (the originals are in storage, as they should be), and that record is on there.

The only song Dylan did that I liked was Knocking on Heavens Door.
That was a classic.

I love Dylan, but if I had to choose between Knockin' on Heaven's Door or Don't Take Your Guns to Town (since they are literally the exact same theme), I'ma have to go with Cash.

Lol, "heavy into pot."

Truth be told, you're seeing punk culture and bluegrass culture beginning to merge since they essentially advocate the same lifestyle. I knew a travelling bluegrass group of train kids and buskers who did enough narcotics in an hour to drop a rhino.

Thing was... they could still play amazing music. A little part of me envies that lifestyle.
